Another chance to study Katonah Yoga in Zurich!

We invite you to join the 30 Hour Katonah Yoga Intensive Training with Dages Juvelier Keates (NY):

Through a deepened and radically embodied practice you will be able to turn towards this “complex whole”, applying not only asana, but especially pranayama and meditation as tools.

Dages teaches with powerful metaphors evolved through intensive studies with Nevine Michaan, the founder of Katonah Yoga. She teaches workshops and trainings at Katonah Yoga in Bedford Hills (NY), The Studio (NYC) and Sky Ting (NYC), pursuing a vision of yoga as self-care and communal/altruistic practice.

This will be a training for the better understanding and expressing on how the imaginative scores are practical. “Free yourself to speak clearly and make space to listen.”

For students and teachers alike.

The 30 Hour Katonah Yoga Intensive Training will be led by Dages Juvelier Keates and hosted by Reni Bickel and Aylin Karadayi.

75 hr KATONAH YOGA TEACHER TRAINING w. ANTON + DAGES - PANTERELLIA, ITALIY

The Sacred Fig Advanced Yoga Teacher Trainings are intensive, modular program designed to elevate + inform the next generation of leaders in the yoga community.  Our advanced 300 hour programming is divided into 75 hour modules. Piece together any four modules, on your schedule, anywhere around the world, for the full 300 hour program. Each 75 hour module has a unique focus, led by experts in their respective fields.

This 75 hour, 9 day module dives deep into The Katonah Method.  Katonah is a syncretic Hatha yoga practice developed by Nevine Michaan over 40 years. She and her teachers incorporate classical Hatha yoga with Taoist theory, geometry, magic, mythology, metaphor, and imagination — in a practical framework designed to potentiate personal and communal well-being.

We firmly believe that the strongest attribute any yoga teacher possesses is themselves.  Learning refined alignment + biomechanics is a given on our trainings, but we don’t stop there – be prepared to explore things like personal development, confidence, and speech.  Our 300 hour programs are registered with The Yoga Alliance, but they’re so much more than that.  In fact, our advanced trainings are some of the most comprehensive available today.  Our graduates now teach at studios, retreats & trainings around the globe. The Sacred Fig Yoga Teacher Trainings produce confident, knowledgeable, articulate, and empowered yoga teachers.  Period.

At the core of the The Sacred Fig philosophy is connection + community.  Not only do our thoughts affect us in tangible ways, but we also have the extraordinary capacity to affect those around us, and the environment we live in.  And so as yoga practitioners and teachers, we strive for the extraordinary, so that we may serve as a beacon of possibility for those around us.  We see the divine in everything around us, but we also know that it lies within us.  So before trying to shape & control everything outside of us, we first look deep within, and do the work ourselves.

We don’t provide answers.  (and we’re wary of any teacher or school who claims that they do)  Instead, we welcome & provide different viewpoints, we stir lively discourse.  We set the circumstances to challenge notions about what yoga is, what it might feel like or look like, and why we practice.  We create an accelerated learning environment, where trainees gain the confidence to discover their own ‘truths’ about yoga, about their bodies and their practice.  There’s no memorization, no mimicry, and no script.  From this place, trainees find their authentic voice… sharing their knowledge & their practice naturally.  Join Us.

*Space for this advanced training is limited to 15 students.

PRANAYAMA PRACTICUM w. DAGES JUVELIER KEATES - NYC

Pranayama Practicum: Intensive Training in the Myths, Metaphors, Maps and Wraps of Katonah Yoga

You are a yoga teacher and practitioner.
You want to go deeper in your own practice and what you can offer others. What do you do?

In the most exhilarating moments of life, your breath is there. In the deepest grief, there too you will find the omnipresent melody of materiality, your precious breath. Vacillating between practices that stimulate and soothe, pranayama allows you to come home, to be alone with yourself. Katonah pranayama techniques are gateways to the dual tasks of learning to both soothe and stimulate oneself.

Training and teaching pranayama is different from an asana practice. Furthermore, there are differences in how you teach breath work and Katonah theory to a general class or with a private student. Learn Katonah techniques to precisely read and bolster your students. Deepen your understanding of Katonah Yoga’s potent embodied maps for reorganizing oneself in time and space through the vehicle of the breath. Gain competency in articulating your practice. We will cover a basic structure for sequencing and organizing a session to best serve the needs of different types of students. With hands-on experience you will gain confidence through applied knowledge.

Dages has been teaching for sixteen years and has had time to try to help, make mistakes, learn skills, and refine her techniques. She is known for her intense and imaginative pranayama teaching, which she applies to group and private classes. Private yoga sessions constitute the great majority of her teaching, and she has worked with an eclectic swath of New Yorkers during her career, from hedge fund managers to homemakers to hockey players.

Beginning in 2002, her studies have earned her accreditations in both the Bihar and Kundalini lineages. Her syncratic teaching style has been profoundly impacted by immersion in studies with her mentor Nevine Michaan, founder of Katonah Yoga. Recent collaborations include a series of workshops with Elena Brower, and retreats and teacher trainings with veteran Katonah teacher Abbie Galvin, Sacred Fig founder Anton Brandt, and SKY TING co-founder Chloe Kernaghan in Bali, Dominican Republic, Greece, Panama, Morocco, Switzerland, and Vancouver.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • An Atlas of Internal Cartographies; how do Nevine’s central maps of Katonah Yoga (such as magic square, body as a house, wraps for rapture) interface with other systems such as the Chakras, the Tree of Life, the tantric Five Element Body? We will dive into a rich exploration of these maps across times and cultures, gleaning insights from the teachings of kabbalists, and yogis, scholars and saddhus.

  • Dozens of breath techniques to stimulate and soothe, to activate and integrate ranging from the obvious to the invisible. Master techniques that give you concentrated radiance and voluminous structure.

  • Personal breath practices for self-care

  • Practical body readings/diagnostics of students

  • Hand placements and adjustments to help the elder, injured, sensitive student catch their breath and find space

  • Teaching pranayama and esoteric anatomy: how to articulate Katonah Yoga theory to students

  • Breakdown of frequently used breath techniques along with their modifications

This training will be small and personal, enabling each participant to get the information that will best support them in empowering others. Specific questions can be emailed to Dages in advance, or feel free to bring in your real life examples for mentoring.

REQUIREMENT:

One hour practice with Nevine: https://www.katonahyoga.com/listen
One hour practice with Dages: https://www.katonahyoga.com/pranayama-w-dages

As this training will cover Katonah Yoga material, taking some Katonah Yoga classes is suggested. Study with any of the teachers at Katonah Yoga in Bedford hills, or look for Katonah informed classes at SkyTing or The Studio. It is also helpful, although not necessary, to have some familiarity with the Magic Square.

RADICAL ACTS OF EMBODIMENT - KATONAH YOGA TO EMPOWER ONESELF AND OTHERS with DAGES KEATES - CALIFORNIA

One’s body is not a project or a problem, it is the place each of us is always and already living from. Embodied practice can turn us toward that reality and away from tendencies to dissociate. To live in each of our changing, growing, yearning, dying, aging bodies is to be in touch with what is profoundly human. Practice is not to degrade oneself or aggrandize oneself, but to find the complexity of life as it is on a human scale.

Weekend One will focus on practices to empower, potentiate, and protect oneself.

Weekend Two will focus on participation in collective well being through teaching, adjusting, and bolstering others with Katonah Yoga.

Dages has been teaching for fifteen years and had time to make mistakes, learn skills, and refine her techniques. She has worked with an eclectic swath of of students during her career, from hedge fund managers to homemakers to hockey players.

RADICAL ACTS OF EMBODIMENT: KATONAH YOGA® INTENSIVE TO EMPOWER ONESELF AND OTHERS with DAGES JUVELIER KEATES - VANCOUVER

To live in each of our changing, growing, yearning, dying, aging bodies is to be in touch with what is profoundly human. Practice is not to degrade oneself or aggrandize oneself, but to find the complexity of life as it is on a human scale.

This intensive will deepen your understanding of Katonah Yoga’s central metaphors and practices. Your body is your house, your personal abode; you want to know how to have a party and clean it up!

KATONAH YOGA® was founded by Nevine Michaan, and is a Hatha yoga practice refined over forty years, blended with Taoist theory, sacred geometries, pranayama, and meditation. For more information, please visit www.katonahyoga.com.

We will explore:

Katonah Yoga Asana

Adjustments

Pranayama

Restoratives

Body Reading

Inner Cartographies including the Magic Square and the Body As A House.

Asana is origami for bodies.

Through vigorous practice, we will break down the angles and measures of Katonah classics: dogs, hangs, squares, lunges, squats and pigeons. Learn how to use archetypes, the magic square, and formulas for cross referencing to amplify the currency of your asana practice.

Pranayama techniques are recipes for joy. Learn Katomah tools that enable one to be alone with oneself, plumb one’s depths, get whipped up, embody ecstasy, re-orient, and find joy. Sessions will include lecture, demonstration, and plenty of hands-on, attuned adjustments.

Katonah Yoga is replete with therapeutic techniques, and will focus on individual questions and concerns. We will take time to set up conditions for body reading, adjustments, and attunements of each individual. A private yoga session is different from a group practice. In a private, you tune your instrument, in a class, you play for the symphony!

If you have had a taste of Katonah’s singular material and want a broader understanding of theory and practice, this experience is for you.

“Dages is a master of both Katonah material and teaching in general. I felt like I received 15 hours of personal therapeutic attention from both Dages and my fellow students - all so eager learn the material and practice on each other. What a truly magical and enlightening weekend. More, please!”

“Dages is the best!! This course really helped me gain the confidence I was looking for to read and adjust my students one in one.”

“Whether your goal is to improve the experience for your existing clients or take on your very first one, you will absolutely walk away from this program with tools and confidence to do so! Having the opportunity to tap into Dages' extensive experience and her passion for sharing all she knows is invaluable. The set-up of the program was both professional and extremely productive; from the high quality materials to the vast amount of hands on practice each student was able to experience.”

"This training exceeded my expectations on so many levels. The wealth of knowledge and passion that Dages has for this practice is undeniable. This training will expand not only your teaching, but the lens in which you see the World."

“I highly recommend this training module with Dages. I left feeling empowered and filled with practical knowledge on how to give a therapeutic private. I was thoroughly impressed with the structure of the weekend and well Dages time-managed each day. Dages expanded my imagination of what a "yoga practice" looks like and how every body and every mind can benefit from these therapeutic poses and breath work.”

“The Teaching the Therapeutic Private training with Dages was an incredible experience. We learned practical, applicable tools for working with students one-on-one, and were immersed into the magic of Katonah yoga theory. The work was profoundly deep and yet playful. Especially as a vinyasa teacher who primarily teaches group classes, I learned so much and feel so much better equipped to teach privates. I can't recommend this training enough.”
