Katonah Yoga Master Class with LillI Van Hall

Join Lilli in understanding Katonah’s implicit and explicit —

In this Master Class, we will source our wisdom within, discuss our first, second and third nature — cultivating a deeper Self with theory and practice.

Working with nature — Spring is the time we take the tongue to our upper palette, initiate conversation, occupy our center, feel the ether’s creative musk, and cleanse our liver for Summer’s heat. We will follow the encouragement of this season, working with specific asana, pranayama, and free movement to orient ourself alongside other organic matter.

As writing influences Lilli’s path, this practice will incorporate our use of language — using the landscape of our largest organ for communication. We will find subtle sinews, discover the Self, and gather grace as a community.

Find Confidence in Your Teaching, a 5hr workshop with ELLEN SIRUCCI

Are you looking to build your confidence as a yoga teacher? Join Ellen’s workshop to help you find your voice and comfort in teaching.

A 5 hour Katonah Yoga Training Open to All

Very limited class size – please register asap as this class will fill up

“I loved Ellen's Comfort in Teaching Workshop. The workshop gave me much more confidence in my teaching and a map for how to design and present my class.” - Leydin Kotapish

Making the transition from being certified and understanding yoga techniques conceptually and physically -- to teaching it -- is a big step. This teaching technique class is a place to hone your skills as a teacher, find your voice, work on designing and creating a class, and find the way you teach best.

  • How do you demonstrate and lead a class?

  • How do you give specific insights or corrections and keep the class going?

  • How do you use words to cue the class?

  • How do you give images, use metaphors and keep the class engaged physically and intellectually?

  • Do you memorize what you want to do - or are you a go with the flow type of teacher?

  • Do you project your voice well?

  • Are your instructions clear?

  • Are you comfortable with your adjustment skills?

  • How can you get off your mat to help give adjustments and insights to the students while still keeping the class moving?

In our small group you will find a safe environment in which you can practice finding your teaching voice, practice designing and leading sequences, and learn how to lead the class in a thoughtful manner. This class will be filled with positive and constructive feedback as we take time for each participant to teach in many small sequences.

Please come prepared with a 1 - 2 min sequence to teach to the group.

Ellen Sirucci is a Master Katonah Yoga Teacher.  Ellen's background with over two decades of Katonah Yoga, and an earlier career being a professional dancer and an on air spokesperson, give her unique insights into helping to present and propel your teaching abilities.

$150

All hours with Ellen are bankable towards Katonah Yoga 200hr Certification.

Touch can be a powerful and effective tool when it is warranted and consented to. We are three dimensional beings, each with our own understanding of our body and the world around us. Developing an eye for embodiment is a big piece of the picture when approaching and applying any hands-on technique. In this training, we will spend a good deal of time exploring what and how we see, so that we can approach adjustments (or assists) with care, caution, humility, grace. Hands-on adjustments are neither arbitrary or mandatory, but rather an opportunity to offer a shift in perspective and a possible pathway to insight.

This training is designed for yoga teachers who wish to implement a sound and sensible approach to hands-on adjustments in both group and private class settings. You will learn how to use Katonah Yoga theory, tools, and techniques to explore effective ways to guide your classes visually, spatially, and verbally. We will explore geometry, asana archetypes, accessible alignment, and adjustment techniques in an in-depth and pragmatic way, leaving you with a tool box of skills to use to your advantage in life and in teaching.

  • Body Reading for Asana

June 8, 12-3 pm
June 9, 9 am-12 pm

Each Attendee will receive Nevines most recent Katonah Yoga Planner, complete with every map/geographical chart and supportive theoretical material to date in the Katonah Yoga Material.

Everything provides Insight. In the communal/the world, On the Line, the insight is You in relation to things, others, systems. You are continually shown how well you intersect. How you communicate, cooperate, collaborate, how quickly you can shift gears, change course, change mind, navigate territory, be timely. It’s the daily test drive and calls upon you to use your technique and skillfully manage space, time, circumstances, others and always your self. Every road leads to You and there’s always a wild card. We will work with the specific techniques associated with this as form determines function and good fit-ups function.

Practicing in Solitude takes place In Time, In the Round and the insight is you in relation to you. It provides the fundamental playground for better knowing and becoming of ones’ self, more evenly developed and freely functional. It’s the door to self-intimacy, care, kindness, safety, love, tending with a lighter hand, a softer landing.  It is always the sacred space for the inevitable work when things fall apart. This is where you remember, reorder, reclaim, where you restore, replenish, refine. It’s where the therapeutic work of restoration and longevity primarily occur. It’s where you self manage, organize, where you find You at the center and grow/strengthen/ripen in the vortex of time. It provides a wealth of opportunity to simply figure things out, reevaluate, work on what you’ve lost, and develop what you’ve never had. At least its this and more for me.

Practicing in solitude is the ongoing birthplace of you and your emergence. Your Insight is the growing ground of your unique contribution as a teacher or whatever you do. Your solo practice is yours and is developed by your design. It evolves as you, the seasons, your life and your needs change.

Day 1: On The Line in SPACE

We will work with Explicit, your 2nd Nature, you in Space, on the line. Space is fixed, it is linear and provides reflection. We will work with the Yang of you, the solar, the skill set side, the tough love side, Your Mobility, ability, agility and refer to the ongoing training of your beautiful mind in this. These are the tools and techniques that you use in your life and into the world on a daily basis. We will orient and organize via the Magic Square with a good solid pragmatic and esoteric breakdown of this Magical Grid, our primary map and its ever-evolving living content and uses.

Day 2: In the Round TIME

We will work with your 1st Nature, with the Yin of you, the lunar, In Time, in the Round, Time is the vortex of the present, it is spherical. Your Stability, Wisdom/Patience side, your inherent potential, the hand you were dealt, your heart side, your ancestry, your ever emergent self, into the Restoration and Longevity work and subtle practices of breath, mapped meditations, and evolutions.

All Into 3rd Nature. The Implicit. Your soul imbued with Cosmic Material

First Triads, then circle it all up, Integration, in movement and circumambulate our selves in an evolutionary meditation, weaving 1st, 2nd and 3rd Nature unified, as a braid, One Taste, As All of You, thrice threaded into A singular Expression.

And at the end, we will open the floor to your questions!

All hours with Ivy go toward your Katonah Yoga Certification.

Your body is where EVERYTHING lives, happens + thrives. Grow/build a more safe, sane, functional, JOYFUL you, a viable, worthy container for all of what you are, duly prepared for what life may hand you and in an aim of becoming more evenly developed, freely functional, powerful, virtuous, women, men, leaders, teachers, parents, lovers, friends. ~ Ivy Ray

75 HOUR YOGA TEACHER TRAINING IN PANTELLERIA with Anton & Dages

75 HOUR YOGA TEACHER TRAINING IN PANTELLERIA with Anton & Dages

The Sacred Fig Advanced Yoga Teacher Trainings are intensive, modular program designed to elevate + inform the next generation of leaders in the yoga community. Our advanced 300 hour programming is divided into 75 hour modules. Piece together any four modules, on your schedule, anywhere around the world, for the full 300 hour program. Each 75 hour module has a unique focus, led by experts in their respective fields.

This 75 hour, 8 day module dives deep into Katonah Yoga techniques. Katonah Yoga is a syncretic Hatha yoga practice developed by Nevine Michaan over 40 years. She and her teachers incorporate classical Hatha yoga with Taoist theory, geometry, magic, mythology, metaphor, and imagination — in a practical framework designed to potentiate personal and communal well-being.

We firmly believe that the strongest attribute any yoga teacher possesses is themselves. Learning refined alignment + biomechanics is a given on our trainings, but we don’t stop there – be prepared to explore things like personal development, confidence, and speech. Our 300 hour programs are registered with The Yoga Alliance, but they’re so much more than that. In fact, our advanced trainings are some of the most comprehensive available today. Our graduates now teach at studios, retreats & trainings around the globe. The Sacred Fig Yoga Teacher Trainings produce confident, knowledgeable, articulate, and empowered yoga teachers. Period.

At the core of the The Sacred Fig philosophy is connection + community. Not only do our thoughts affect us in tangible ways, but we also have the extraordinary capacity to affect those around us, and the environment we live in. And so as yoga practitioners and teachers, we strive for the extraordinary, so that we may serve as a beacon of possibility for those around us. We see the divine in everything around us, but we also know that it lies within us. So before trying to shape & control everything outside of us, we first look deep within, and do the work ourselves.

We don’t provide answers. (and we’re wary of any teacher or school who claims that they do) Instead, we welcome & provide different viewpoints, we stir lively discourse. We set the circumstances to challenge notions about what yoga is, what it might feel like or look like, and why we practice. We create an accelerated learning environment, where trainees gain the confidence to discover their own ‘truths’ about yoga, about their bodies and their practice. There’s no memorization, no mimicry, and no script. From this place, trainees find their authentic voice… sharing their knowledge & their practice naturally. Join Us.

If you're currently working on anything, you are welcome to simply write a clear intention, in free-form or bullet points. Please bring your written intentions on a piece of paper with you.

Prepare your vessel - to increase your sensitivity and openness we would highly recommend refraining from alcohol intake and other substances for about a week before the ceremony. Please, come on a fairly empty stomach.

Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to settle in, as we plan to begin right on time.

WHAT TO BRING

Warm and comfortable clothing (layers are the best, as change of body temperature may occur), eye mask or a scarf to cover your eyes (very important!), a pillow and blankets to make the journey extra comfy, a refillable water bottle, a journal and a pen.

“Katonah Yoga is not a practice, you can’t just do Katonah Yoga, you use it as a method in Yoga. That's why when people come to me and say they want to teach Katonah Yoga, you have to have something else, they have to do Ashtanga, they have to do Iyengar, they have to do something else, because you are only original when you know something else”.

~ Nevine Michaan

Dear new and In the making Katonah Yoga teachers, all students and my peers

Join us and experience Nevine's Magic the through me, the literal embodiment of her vast material over two decades, in myself and at one with a living system in my life and where I've chosen to land in my contribution to the developing landscape of Katonah Yoga and its future; it's up and coming teachers. This training will be indicative of this choice and the Public Reveal of My Katonah Yoga Advanced Mentorship Program.

You will be valued, respected and held high. I have been quietly mentoring teachers that are either in the process of their Katonah Certifications or complete and in some cases, their communities for quite some time now.  Encouraging and empowering them to remember who they are, to own where they are already an authority, to find their own voice, cadence and by their own design, to consciously select elements to weave and teach through their ongoing lives and traditions, you can't teach it all. Time is revelatory and it will ripen you and the work in and through you. From where I stand, You deserve a life and teaching that are unified, that extend from You, as its center, sovereign of your domain, level/in alignment with your own natural response, not someone else's. From my experience, this produces great Joy, fulfillment and freedom and a sustainable environment that becomes the fertile ground from which your own continued emergence and wholistic development can grow and flourish.

When you attend a training, even a class, from a seasoned Katonah Yoga instructor you receive a synthesis of their heritage, experience, culture, previous studies, tradition, achievements, their rhythm, use of language; their very nature, teaching through the blueprint of the Katonah Yoga Material. In essence, we are composing the experience while weaving in components of our choice. This is personal and not, though, You are there and conducting, your presence speaks volumes. The freedom and creativity that Nevine has afforded in this is quite profound and unique. This is why she requests you experience us all. These women, myself included, are not interested in homogenizing themselves, they are invested in fully Being themselves while teaching this work. They are each an individual product of it. We do in fact all teach and use the material differently and we are distinct, primarily women, doing so, though many men are certainly coming on board now. How and what we choose to teach is by our own design, all of this is what makes us Unique.  This is your extraordinary opportunity in the privileged participation of the system that Nevine has spent her life meticulously selecting and organizing. The sum total of all these parts is what makes her and the work she continues to evolve, an ever emergent Whole, utterly Original.

Bless You with the Light of a Thousand Suns Nevine Michaan.

Love,

Ivy Ray

WHAT WE WILL COVER: Below are some of the signature elements we will delve into pragmatically, technically and esoterically threaded with my own insight. Many of these are by request from the two potent teachers, Michelle and Jen, who are sponsoring and participating in this training. The others are some of the aspects of the Katonah Yoga material that are an Integral part of my living web.

ADJUSTMENTS: A select number of consensual, discerning, conscious adjustments and much supportive dialog

PRANAYAMA: Our Signature Pranayama, deconstructed and additionally taught at a learning cadence so you can own it.

NUMBER/GEOMETRY: The One The Many. The sequential structure of everything, the ladder that leads to higher intelligence

MEDITATION: I began sitting as a young child. Over the years, it became more formal moving through the lens of Zen, Tao, Chogyam Trumpa, Nature, Integral Theory, Alan Watts, Vipassana, Egyptian Mysticism, Hermetic Philosophy, Insight, Course in Miracles and on. Over the last 20, I have been weaving Nevines material in, especially in most recent years with our maps and evolutions.  We will do a guided meditation daily.

KATONAH INFORMED VINYASA On Weaving language throughout this tradition, potent pauses and sneaky tricks. I began teaching w Nevine in my beginnings, by leading Ashtanga slow motion, threaded with this material.

PRACTICING IN SOLITUDE: The power and vast potential of practicing on your own, a primary component of Katonah Yoga: Restorative and Longevity work and whatever else you need to work on, additionally it is an essential opportunity for self-tending, feeding, caring, intimacy. You cannot give what you do not own for yourself. Including the structuring of this work for your students.

GREAT NATURE: The absolute display, a patterned blueprint for living in harmony/overall well being and the key to understanding the whole. You are a micro of the macro

TEACHING WITHOUT PHYSICAL CONTACT: You may choose to be a teacher who doesn't have communal adjustments during your classes or vary it. It's up to you. Learning to use your voice and language to guide a room or individual thoroughly through a pose, with little or no physical contact is potent and provides a unique own age for your students.

YOU NOW IN SPACE AND TIME: Reflections/Revelations Technicality on the Explicit/Implicit On the Line in the Round 1st 2nd 3rd Nature into an eventual Braid of One Taste and Nevines brilliance on Time.

READING THE BODY: The fine art of RePositioning, the pragmatic technicality, imaginative and graceful means of reading someone's body

THE MAGIC SQUARE: Cohesive elaboration and insights on the Magic Square, a new method to practice with it, which becomes a great tool for teaching and some of what each position contains, the grid and numbers are set and its overall evolutionary current/content is living and ever emergent.

THE GOLDEN THREAD: Embodying the Magic Square with your narrative thread, imagination and cosmic material and perhaps some of the other mapped meditations, evolutions.

ANATOMY OF A CLASS A Katonah communal experience and much of what's possible there. We will work with this, as we practice. It lies in your hands as to how to govern, direct and structure this.

WHOLISTIC PRIVATE INSTRUCTION: We Begin with you, into our classic Blueprint, where it goes from there depends on who you are working with, your previous and current skillset and your imagination.

TAO: The nature of things. Pragmatic, Graceful, Lucid Instruction on the Art Of Living

POLARITY MEDIATED BY TRINITY: Much on this. Including a simple method to use the Triad in your daily life and teaching

WHEN THINGS FALL APART in your life, in a classroom, in a private, In the moment.

ALL OF THIS will be woven with and in some cases separate components on Hermetic Philosophy, Integral theory as in alignment with Katonah Yoga, Asana as Origami, tensegrity, super sensibility and Music. “Without music, life would be a mistake” Friedrich Nietzsche A

SWEET BLUEPRINT OF OUR TIME

4 hour am session - Opening dialog, ritual or meditation. Breakdown of the day Communal practice, pranayama, mapped meditations and select theoretical material

3 hour free time to replenish/spend time in nature: recalibrate, integrate, reflect/enjoy, partner up to work with others

3 ½ hour afternoon session - Reconvene for questions prior start time. Resume work until 6/6:30pm each day.

VINYASA X KATONAH YOGA RETREAT with Brian Nygard & Benjamin Sears

  • SOUTH OF FRANCE, Lux Yoga (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

LUXYOGA is all about integration; bringing people and practices together for an experience of great pieces that combine to exceed the sum of their parts – and your expectations.

Our September 3-9 retreat will be a long-awaited collaboration between Benjamin Sears, LUXYOGA founder (“one of 15 teachers to study with now” – Yoga Journal 2017) and Brian Nygard, one of a few teachers selected to facilitate Katonah Yoga trainings, and a respected mentor in the New York Yoga community with a diverse resume that spans Vipassana meditation, Hot and Vinyasa Yoga, Wim Hoff Breath-work, and a career as a professional musician.

These two teachers and friends share a belief in a fine balance between consistency and variation in practice. Teaching what works from different disciplines in a cohesive and connected way empowers students to think for themselves and best express their individual potential. On this retreat, you will improve your practice and awareness by repeating concepts in different applications. By exploring a curated set of movement and stillness variations while centered on fundamentals, you become radiant; up for any challenge, happy in your body, and self-reliant!

This retreat is open to all levels and ages and counts as 20 Hours of Continuing Education Credit for Yoga Teachers. We have hosted guests from age 15 to 81. All are welcome here.

THE BULLET POINTS
The practical magic of Katonah Yoga • Sacred Geometry Vinyasa Practice Meditation Functional Mobility inspired by Functional Range Conditioning for optimal joint function and fitness Modifications for all levels Strength development for all levels • Legendary LUXYOGA cuisine, villa & service • Biodynamic Wine Tasting • Insider’s South of France Excursions

A DAY IN THE LUX
Good Morning!
Each day will begin with variations on Katonah Yoga Practice, Benjamin’s signature Sacred Geometry Yoga Practice, breathwork and meditation.

Bon Appetit
The legendary LUX Provençal lunch buffet and a little downtime, unparalleled views, pool time.

Afternoon
Two afternoons will feature excursions that balance the cultural and cosmopolitan side of the South of France with the stunning nature of the hills of Provençe.

The remaining 4 afternoons will feature a second practice that pulls from your teachers’ unique and broad knowledge of body and mind. Some practices will present material from a more common Yoga approach, others will integrate practically scientific mobility, strength, and coordination techniques tailored to ensure that you leave the retreat not only having made significant strides, but also with the tools to continue to work towards optimal health and performance. In a world of fad workouts, depth of focus on the component parts of your body combines with your own best effort for the results you want. Self-knowledge is power and at any level, you can train like the world’s best and/or find a path forward from an injury you might be dealing with.

Gatsby Vibes
In the evening, guests will gather for aperitifs while the sun sets over the Mediterranean and then savor legendary LUX cuisine and local biodynamic wines. Two optional excursions, time in nature, airport transfers, and the cozy luxury treatment that we’ve refined since 20007 are of course all included.

We believe that a vacation can change your life, that empowered living is about evolving mind-body practices over fitness fads, that people deserve to eat memorable cuisine that comes from local sources, and that luxury is about giving people the space to connect, make memories, and get clear on what you want out of life when you head back home.

LUXYOGA TESTIMONIALS

“I have taken yoga retreats all over the world and I must say that LUXYOGA is my absolute favorite retreat to date. Not only are Ben and Craig extraordinarily gifted instructors but they are also kind and funny. Every session offered an opportunity to deepen my practice both physically and spiritually. The beauty of the Villa will leave you speechless with its panoramic view and open air dining room.  The food alone is worth coming to Lux. and I must say that I am grateful for all the calorie burning yoga offered during our stay because it allowed me to enjoy each sumptuous meal with delight and gusto! The Villa has a very special guardian (Concierge) named Dan who will ensure that every moment of your stay is both comfortable and luxurious. The entire team at Lux will make you feel at home and like family. I look forward to many more retreats at Lux!”

Alejandra Arguindegui

“As a committed hot yoga practitioner, I found the combination of classes very useful for my hot yoga practice.  Not only did the Sacred Geometry help me realize what areas of my body I am targeting in each posture and gave me some tools to achieve better alignment, it helped me think of the postures and entire practice in a more enlightened way.  My yoga practice has improved dramatically as a result. In fact in my third class back I did full standing head to knee on both sides, something I had never done before (even though I am attempting to become less outcome focused). So in taking on board what I learnt from Sacred Geometry and not trying so hard I have managed to see and feel improvement in all aspects of my yoga practice. Thanks Ben and Tatiana for the knowledge you shared and the care and commitment to teaching you showed us.”

Sharon Levine

Have loved visiting LUXYOGA for many years.  Have been mostly for Bikram weeks but also two vinyasa yoga weeks.  Have also spent both the Christmas and New Year's week at the villa.  Always look forward to meeting the other guests, enjoying delicious food, and the company of Ben & staff.  Its a great week of reflection, real work on my yoga and myself, and I gratefully unplug from my crazy life to recharge and refocus on what is important.  Its unquestionably one of the best things I do for myself and I highly recommend the LUXYOGA experience regardless of your level of yoga fitness.

The Magic Behind the Magic Square with Rita Murjani & Vinny Bonanno

In this Katonah workshop, we’ll explore the true magic behind the magic square - it’s origin, mathematical pattern, and use as a map! Our body is our house, our vehicle, our instrument -- when practicing yoga and other embodiment techniques, it’s best to navigate the landscape with a GPS, coordinates, and directions!

The magic square allows us to read bodies and navigate our own. Once proficient in reading the map you can figure out where you are, where you want to go, and how to get there. When we weave a collaborative, well integrated home, the whole far surpasses the sum of individual parts!

Learn the unique character and purpose of each room and how to travel the master staircase of your own house. Learn why we clean with the left and cut with right, heat from the base and water from above, and access the back to potentiate the front.

Join guest yoga teacher Brian Nygard from New York City for a Katonah Yoga © Workshop Series: Tuesday 5/14 & Wednesday 5/15: 1:30-3:30pm: $50/ each day

From the view point of Taoism, 🌱 wellness is found through a three fold path of Mind, Body and Speech. Warm like the summer❤️ 🔥 The heart(h) is our flame of speech.  When seasoned, positioned, held and well tended; the fire of the Heart can be Hear-d through song and radiate its warmth to feed the Ear of the Ear-th 👂 🌍 When wielded; the tongue can appoint, navigate, paint and spell out the vibration of a mind embodied.

The How we (heart)iculate this experience to ourselves, The How we draw from it a narrative that supports our wellbeing; and How we co-relate, communicate, re-cognizance and remember this phenomenon; this formulates our immunity. Life is a gift, freely given. lets write an amazing story with it!

Revolve & Reveal – 10-hour KATONAH YOGA® Training with Brian Nygard

  • BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, Bainbridge Yoga House (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Join Brian Nygard for a 10-hour KATONAH YOGA® Training. Founded by Nevine Michaan, KATONAH YOGA® is a hatha practice refined over the past forty years, blending Taoist theory, sacred geometries, pranayama, and meditation.

You’ll learn and implement breathwork, asana, theory, body reading, and restorative practices. Together, we’ll use metaphors to consider your circumstance and uncover more function in your forms.

The universe has a rhythm, a bounce, a vibration of yin and yang. We know that “what goes up, must come down” and “as within, so without.” When you see a mountain, simply look around to find its valley. Having a round perspective reveals that nothing is broken or needs to be fixed. This training will guide you in repurposing, reorienting, and re-finding everything in its right place.

KATONAH YOGA® was founded by Nevine Michaan, and is a Hatha yoga practice refined over forty years, blended with Taoist theory, sacred geometries, pranayama, and meditation. For more information, visit www.katonahyoga.com

Brian Nygard is a Katonah Yoga teacher and Vipassana meditator. Equal parts poetic and pragmatic, Brian’s classes seamlessly weave Taoism, geometry, breath work, and humor. He empowers his students to not only recognize nature’s implicit pattern in the body, but also to use this structure as a map in order to make more enlightened choices.

With a formal education from the New England Conservatory of Music, and seasoned through years of study with his foremost mentors Nevine Michaan and Abbie Galvin, Brian’s teachings draw from a broad vocabulary of music, philosophy, and embodied work. His curiosity as a teacher stems from over 15 years of personal practice.

A senior faculty member at many of New York City’s most established yoga schools, Brian has trained and mentored hundreds of teachers over the last decade. He has been a guest teacher at the United Nations, and regularly headlines workshops, retreats, festivals, and teacher training programs, both in the U.S. and internationally. SPRING MASTER CLASS WITH IVY RAY: ON CLEANING HOUSE BECOMING NEW UNI VISION AND MAGIC

It is here. yay! In Great Nature and in You. In the natural world Spring is the birthing season, the time for development and creation. In You its the opportunity to Begin Again, re-evaluate and grow yourself new. Time to clean out, let go, lighten up and make way for what's to come. Spring is the Wood element, which governs all living growing trees, plants and the human being. Its the strengthening of the roots, the trunk, the limbs, the joints and is correlated with the idea and your capacity for mental clarity, discernment, decision making. This fortuitous birthing and growing season is in process until June 21st, the first day of Summer.

In the Chinese System, the primary organ for Spring is the Liver. The liver has more than a hundred known functions. A Peek into: The liver is your endurance in life. The liver is the master laboratory of the body, it is in charge of dispersion and dredging: it is largely responsible for the regulation of emotion, it is related to anger and anger impairs its function, it governs digestion and absorption, the circulation of qi and blood, as well as our reproductive function. The liver houses the hun (our spiritual consciousness) the hun is essential to our spiritual and psychological dynamic. Lastly, the liver is connected to our eyes, their physiological function as well as our capacity for Vision.

Join us for a rigorous (as Spring calls for nothing less) buoyant, lively, informative, alchemizing practice: heating, spinning, twisting, bending, strengthening, all woven with pranayama to clean you out and keep it light, springs magic to support and inspire, while threading in visionary possibilities of insight, outsight, peripheral, hind, fore, reflective, revelatory, fluid, static, honed, vast, multi, UNI  ahhh there's no end :)!

We will circle it all up in a guided meditation to reorient/organize; recalibrate, be fed by Springs Magic and Power and InVision your new self in the making.

We will hang a bit after, open the floor for questions and/or your Insights.

Happy Spring Everyone! Hope to see you.

Joint Health Part I: Shoulders- Building Mobility, Strength, and Full Range of Motion with Ari Halbert

As the joint capable of the largest range of motion within the human body, the shoulder’s unique design offers incredible structural freedom, which proves to be both a boon and a burden.  Unlike the other six load-bearing joints of our anatomy, which offer strong structural stability through the way the bones eloquently join and meet one another, the shoulders rely almost entirely on the surrounding connective tissue to keep them together.  It is, at least in large part, because of this that shoulder pain is so ubiquitous.  The health of the shoulder joint is easily disrupted through poor posture and many of the head-forward activities we constantly engage in.  It is for this reason that special attention needs to be paid to proper shoulder function.

With this in mind, the workshop will review what’s happening “underneath the hood,” so to speak, and apply various exercises to counteract many of the most common dysfunctional movement patterns that almost all of us will develop over time.  The exercises will include, but are not at all limited to those from traditional yoga asana.  Many more are borrowed from gymnastics, calisthenics and corrective exercises used by physical therapists.  So be prepared to move in new ways and experience freedom from shoulder tightness, soreness, and restriction.

Reading Between the Lines, Asana as Archetype with Josh Liles

Reading Between the Lines, Asana as Archetype:

The Warrior, the Mountain, the Tree: yoga plays with archetypes and metaphors that can feel liberating, revolutionary and mystifying. We’ll clarify the foundational metaphors of Katonah Yoga that connect mind, body and breath, like “Driving your car” or “Playing your instrument.” Explore the role of narrative and mythology in asana and pranayama and plug your personal story into a Hero’s Journey.

For the last two decades, Josh Liles has engaged in a deep study of science, yoga, and religion. Synthesizing breath, movement, and stillness with quantum physics, psychology, and cultural studies, Josh’s class is a multi-dimensional experience that aims to be both transcendent and embodied.

Josh lives with his wife, 2 daughters, and dog Dixie in Brooklyn, NY.

Mary Dana Yoga Master Class: Inversions

Mary Dana mixes the theory of Katonah® Yoga, the precision of Iyengar, and the flow of Vinyasa Krama to curate a yoga class experience that will leave you attuned and awakened. She will offer an approach to yoga that is both light-hearted in delivery, and serious in its educational integrity. The focus of this MDY Master Class will be inversions, but is open to all students no matter your current inversion ability!

Saturday, May 4

9am-12pm

Form, Function, & Flow: Integrating Katonah Yoga® & Vinyasa

The literal translation of Vinyasa is to place in a special way. We interpret this to mean that the order of forms, or asanas, function in a way that flows. This placement is not arbitrary, and true flow can occur when things fit together and function well. Katonah Yoga gives us the tools and techniques to explore the forms in an inFORMative way that offers insights into both the objective pattern of nature and the subjective pattern of our personal narrative.

In this workshop we will explore how the geometric integrity and theory of Katonah yoga functions to create flow in a well-adjusted and informed Vinyasa experience. Open to any teacher who wishes to incorporate more of the material in his or her classes and any student who is curious to explore these connections more.

2-5pm

Geometric Integrity in Asana & Longevity: A Katonah Yoga® Workshop

No matter how many years young we are, it is important to recognize the impermanent reality of the body, and that, as we go through life, change is inevitable. This is the beauty of an asana practice and the time we carve out for our practice gives us the opportunity to explore the inner landscape of our physicality and the subtle beauty of change.

In this workshop will explore our sacred structure, using simple angles and geometry to create an objective framework for our asana practice. This framework will allow us to see our embodied habits and personal narratives in a way that gives us important information and feedback. In each installment of this workshop, traditional asanas will be explored with new techniques and tools that you can take with you to implement in a healthy, sustainable, and joyful practice that you can keep for life. Open to all bodies and all ages.

Sunday, May 5

9am-12pm

Chair Yoga: Re-Imagining the Practice

Because of all the angles and elevation a simple yoga chair gives us, it is an indispensable tool for creativity and exploration in a postural yoga practice. Often considered a prop for “easy yoga”, this workshop will showcase ways that a chair can be used to satisfy any level of yoga practitioner. Using the theory of Katonah Yoga® and creativity of Iyengar, we will play with a variety of asana-from standing poses to inversions- using this fun and transformative tool

3 Hour Katonah Yoga Intensive: SPRING! Change of season, Change of everything, Change of you with Ivy Ray

Wake Up Sleepyhead. It's happening! The season of renewal, regeneration, birth in Great nature and in You. Everything coming up and out New.

Seasonal transitions are tricky and the most stressful time on the body, the emotions, the mind. There's much that can be done to lighten this load as we lighten ourselves and prepare for Spring. Its time to clean your house, your self, and make room for the new. Spring in the Chinese system is the liver and the gallbladder. The liver is responsible for moving our blood, our Qi, our feelings, our thoughts. It is the master filter of the body, is directly associated with our vision: Insight, Outsight, Foresight and true vision of what has been. Its the most regenerative of all the organs, so it's forgiving, but you gotta do your work. Its emotional component is Anger, not expressing in a healthy way damages our livers makes them stagnant, the healthier the liver, the less this rises, so feeling a little pissed/irritated lately? Spring is the season to tend to this system.

Join me as we move through seasonal specific pragmatic, calculable techniques and theoretical material associated with readying ourselves for what is truly considered your opportunity to Begin Again. We will practice, breathe, sweat, twist and shout (that's the sound in Chinese theory for Spring!) Get it all out so you are empty to be filled with new life.

From the pragmatic mysticism of TAO, to skillful self-management/manipulation of YOU, all through the body, breath and imagination, we will work with number, the magic in measure, form, fit, function, distilling this and more into pragmatic tools and techniques which bring it all into You, where it is designed to be Worn, Used, Lived, in an aim of becoming more evenly developed/freely functional, joyful, badass, virtuous, women, men, partners, teachers, parents, friends

Upon registration, will receive an Incredible Ayurvedic Spring Cleanse to begin the process. You get to eat its Yummy! and crazy good for you.

Look forward to being with you all again and hopeful for some new faces.

Big Love and Happy Spring You'all

Katonah Yoga Master Class w/ Harriet Schreger and Lynn Ivey at Sky Ting Yoga

Join Katonah Yoga teachers Harriet Schreger and Lynn Ivey for a Katonah Yoga Master Class.

Katonah Yoga® is a syncretic Hatha yoga practice developed by Nevine Michaan over 40 years. She and her teachers incorporate classical Hatha yoga with Taoist theory, geometry, magic, mythology, metaphor, and imagination — in a practical framework designed to potentiate personal and communal well-being. Framing the practice, maps of time and personal space are defined and refined. Themes using asana as origami, manipulating form for function, and developing a sense of personal measure are incorporated in Katonah Yoga practices.

Katonah Yoga is organized around three principles of esoteric dialogue: all polarities are mediated by trinity; the universe has pattern, pattern belies intelligence; by virtue of repetition there is potential for insight. Disciplined techniques are organized for revelation through revolutions.

10 HOUR INTENSIVE TRAINING - TAOISM with Kyle Henry

Saturday & Sunday, April 13-14th (2-7pm)
Price: $300 ($250 before April 8th)

“The life force, or chi, is present in the two primary forces, yang and yin. These are dualities or polarities reflecting opposite states in continual interchange. Yang is pure energy corresponding to heaven; yin is substance and represents earth. Yang, the male, active, light principle, is the force which wishes to expand into everything; yin, the female, receptive, dark principle is the force that wants to contract into nothingness. The interaction of these two forces is what determines the very nature of the universe; their relationship is manifested as the five essential elements which make up all things: Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood.”
- Elson M. Haas from Staying Healthy with the Seasons

Much of the theory we use in our practice is based on the ancient principles of Taoism. We use theory to support living in a body with more imagination, perception and insight. Taoism challenges us to release our personal grasp on reality and attune ourselves to the universal laws of the natural world.

In this training, we will explore our consciousness through the lens of Taoist theory. We will study nature and its patterns to gain insights into our own patterns and we will move through asana, pranayama and meditation practices in order to engage with Taoism in a practical framework.

THE POWER AND PRIVILEGE OF BEING WHO YOU ARE WITH SENIOR KATONAH YOGA INSTRUCTOR IVY RAY

Welcome to an informative, impactful, even revolutionary experience, In your body, where everything lives and happens via the Unique synthesis of Katonah Yoga. We will work with the Explicit, (you, into the world, on the line) and The Implicit (you into Yourself, in Time) We will Orient and Organize with pragmatic absolutes such as Great Nature, number, geometry, measure, Tao and the Lou Shu Magic Square, all through the body, breath and imagination. Everyone is welcome, one of my strengths is teaching those who don’t do Yoga.

Factual: Form determines functionality and a better fit-ups function. It also increases, defines, and regulates the current within, from your bones to organs, glands, nervous system to brain, your senses, your soul. Your overall well-being is contingent upon all of this in graceful balance/collaboration. Your effectiveness/consistency in the world, how well u intersect and produce, is greatly determined by your technical expertise, your form, into a well-organized Self-managed /Skillfully manipulated You.

Let's methodically practice, in a lively insightful communal, all in an aim of becoming more evenly developed, freely functional, safe, sane, badass, virtuous, joyful, women, men, lovers, leaders, parents, teachers, friends….

ALL ATTENDEES will receive a gift of the most recent Katonah Yoga planner which contains every map and geographical chart to date in our material.
