10 HOUR INTENSIVE TRAINING - ADJUSTMENTS with Alex Sharry

10 HOUR INTENSIVE TRAINING - ADJUSTMENTS with Alex Sharry

Saturday & Sunday, December 15-16th (2-7pm)
Price: $300 ($250 before December 10th)

There are certain criteria that all good adjustments share. Beyond a demonstration of good mechanics, this intensive will serve as an experience of how to use information magically; touching someone in a real way, moving someone so they can get out of their own way, affecting someone so they have an insight.

Developing your own vision is the key to learning how to adjust well. The goal of an adjustment is to change someone’s frame of reference. For the most part, since personal style summons one’s unconscious habits, adjusting another practitioner's pose offers a different angle, a new direction, or a re-orientation in order to open a portal of experience impossible on one's own.

We will work pragmatically as well as theoretically, moving through asanas in order to discover how best to approach an adjustment, move a body, affect someone's practice and change a mind. Come fine tune your capacity as an adjuster, develop your relationship to touch and enhance your ability to see more dimensionally in order to enrich another person's vision.

Join Ellen’s workshop to help you find your voice and comfort in teaching.

$150

A 5 hour Katonah Yoga Training

Very limited class size – please register asap as this class will fill up

“I loved Ellens’ comfort in teaching workshop. The workshop gave me much more confidence in my teaching and a map for how to design and present my class.”

Making the transition from being certified and understanding Katonah Yoga techniques conceptually and physically -- to teaching it -- is a big step.  This Teaching Technique class is a place to hone your skills as a teacher, find your voice, work on designing and creating a class, and find the way you teach best.

  • How do you demonstrate and lead a class?

  • How do you correct and keep the class going?

  • How do you use words to cue the class?

  • Do you memorize what you want to do - or are you a go with the flow type of teacher?

  • Do you project your voice well?

  • Are your instructions clear?

  • How can you get off your mat to help give adjustments and insights to the students while still keeping the class moving?

In our small group you will find a safe environment in which you can practice finding your teaching voice, practice designing and leading sequences, and learn how to lead the class in a thoughtful manner.  This class will be filled with positive and constructive feedback as we take time for each participant to teach in many small sequences.

Please come prepared with a 1 - 2 min sequence to teach to the group.

PRANAYAMA: Metaphors, Maps and Wraps of Katonah Yoga with Dages Juvelier Keates

In the most exhilarating moments of life, your breath is there. In the deepest grief, there too you will find the omnipresent melody of materiality, your precious breath. Vacillating between practices that stimulate and soothe, pranayama allows you to come home, to be alone with yourself. Katonah pranayama techniques are gateways to the dual tasks of learning to both soothe and stimulate oneself.

Training in pranayama is different from an asana practice. Deepen your understanding of Katonah Yoga’s potent embodied maps for reorganizing oneself in time and space through the vehicle of the breath. Gain competency in articulating your practice and refining your imagination.

For teachers and practitioners alike.

KATONAH YOGA® was founded by Nevine Michaan, and is a Hatha yoga practice refined over forty years, blended with Taoist theory, sacred geometries, pranayama, and meditation. For more information, please visit www.katonahyoga.com.

About Dages:

Dages has been teaching yoga for seventeen years and has had time to try to help, make mistakes, learn skills, and refine her techniques. She is known for her intense and imaginative pranayama teaching, which she applies to group and private classes. Private yoga sessions constitute the great majority of her teaching, and she has worked with an eclectic swath of New Yorkers during her career, from hedge fund managers to homemakers to hockey players.

Beginning in 2002, her studies have earned her accreditations in both the Bihar and Kundalini lineages. Her syncratic teaching style has been profoundly impacted by immersion in studies with her mentor Nevine Michaan, founder of Katonah Yoga. Recent collaborations include a series of workshops with Elena Brower, and retreats and teacher trainings with veteran Katonah teacher Abbie Galvin, Sacred Fig founder Anton Brandt, and SKY TING co-founder Chloe Kernaghan in Bali, Dominican Republic, Germany, Greece, Panama, Morocco, Switzerland, and Vancouver. She has recently authored “Radical Acts of Embodiment: Teaching and Practices of Katonah Yoga.”

Testimonials:

“This woman seriously knows her sh*t (Katonah Yoga)! But the real magic lies in how Dages expresses the material, so imaginative and thoughtful that you can’t help but let it absorb into your bones.”

“Dages is a master of both Katonah material and teaching in general. I felt like I received 15 hours of personal therapeutic attention from both Dages and my fellow students - all so eager learn the material and practice on each other. What a truly magical and enlightening weekend. More, please!”

“This training was informative, evocative, and transformative. The manual is an incredible compilation of maps, theory, images, and practical guidance that I will continue to reference. Dages's unparalleled energy brings together a remarkable group of individuals. As we moved through the intricacies of guiding and experiencing the therapeutic work of the private, Dages skillfully held space, assisted everyone, and kept good humor running throughout. She is knowledgeable and witty; her passion for this material is invigorating. By the end of the weekend, I felt grounded in community, and excited to make use of the information absorbed throughout the weekend. So grateful!”

"This training exceeded my expectations on so many levels. The wealth of knowledge and passion that Dages has for this practice is undeniable. This training will expand not only your teaching, but the lens in which you see the world."

“Nevine had recommended I seek out Dages and take her workshops and classes. I am so grateful that I had listened to Nevine. After the training, I feel a stronger sense of understanding to the Katonah philosophy in my mind, my body, my practice and my teachings. Everyone has their own way of teaching and translating, I’m so appreciative to Dages for sharing her vast knowledge, personal philosophies and her presence. She has a gift for teaching and an ability to make some of the more complicated Katonah teachings accessible and approachable.”

Focus on your practice as well as the intelligence behind the practice!

SEASONAL INTENSIVE - INSIGHT OF WINTER YOGA & MEDITATION with Josh Liles

  • BROOKLYN, Shambhala Yoga (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Turtles tuck into their shells, fish swim deeper in Winter, and we will follow nature and turn the focus inward. We will use Katonah Yoga Practices, infused with other modalities to explore our interior experience. We will explore hips and the pelvic floor, the use of bandhas, and imaginative wraps, to help you find center. We will also take a deeper dive into the material, maps, and math supporting our frame of reference for a more functional practice.

How do we keep our inner fire burning in the long cold winter? The winter is the season of the kidneys and the seasonal element is water. We will practice keeping the fire of the groin burning to heat up the water of our kidneys. Expect turtles, fishes, pigeons, and lotus variations (you don’t have to have lotus).

Winter is also about the insights available through meditation. We will use direct inquiry to explore the inner expanses available to us in the stillness of winter.

Join us and light your inner fire!

200 HOUR TEACHER TRAINING with Anton Brandt of The Sacred Fig

This 200 hr training features a dedicated Katonah module, taught by Dages Juvelier Keates!

The Sacred Fig 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training is a highly-intensive program designed to educate & inspire the next generation of world-class yoga leaders.  We firmly believe that the strongest attribute any yoga teacher possesses is themselves.  And so we emphasize things like personal development, confidence, and speech (and don’t worry, you’ll still learn kick-ass alignment, too.)  Our rigorous program is approved by The Yoga Alliance, but it’s so much more than that.  In fact, it’s one of the most comprehensive available today.  Our teacher trainings attract students of all levels, from literally all around the globe. The Sacred Fig Yoga Teacher Trainings produce confident, knowledgeable, articulate, and empowered yoga teachers.  Period.

At the core of the The Sacred Fig philosophy is a profound sense of connection.  Not only do our thoughts affect us in tangible ways, but we also have the extraordinary capacity to affect those around us, and the environment we live in.  And so as yoga practitioners and teachers, we strive for the extraordinary, so that we may serve as a beacon of possibility for those around us.  We see the divine in everything around us, but we also know that it lies within us.  So before trying to shape & control everything outside of us, we first look deep within, and do the work ourselves.

We don’t provide answers.  (and we’re wary of any teacher or school who claims that they do)  Instead, we welcome & provide different viewpoints, we stir lively discourse.  We set the circumstances to challenge notions about what yoga is, what it might feel like or look like, and why we practice.  We create an accelerated learning environment, where trainees gain the confidence to discover their own ‘truths’ about yoga, about their bodies and their practice.  There’s no memorization, no mimicry, and no script.  From this place, trainees find their authentic voice… sharing their knowledge & their practice naturally.  Join Us.

FORM, FUNCTION & FLOW: Weaving Katonah Yoga and Vinyasa with Mary Dana

FORM, FUNCTION & FLOW: Weaving Katonah Yoga and Vinyasa with Mary Dana

The literal translation of Vinyasa means to place in a special way. We interpret this to mean that the order of forms, or asanas, function in a way that flows. This placement is not arbitrary, and true flow can occur when things fit together and function well. Katonah Yoga gives us the tools and techniques to explore the forms in an inFORMative way that offer insights into both the objective pattern of nature and the subjective pattern of our personal narrative.

In this two part workshop we will explore how the geometric integrity and theory of Katonah yoga functions to create flow in a well-adjusted and informed Vinyasa experience. Open to both teachers who wish to incorporate more of the material in their classes and any student who is curious to explore these connections more.

75 hour Yoga Teacher Training in Pantelleria with Anton & Dages

The Sacred Fig Advanced Yoga Teacher Trainings are intensive, modular program designed to elevate + inform the next generation of leaders in the yoga community. Our advanced 300 hour programming is divided into 75 hour modules. Piece together any four modules, on your schedule, anywhere around the world, for the full 300 hour program. Each 75 hour module has a unique focus, led by experts in their respective fields.

This 75 hour, 8 day module dives deep into Katonah Yoga techniques. Katonah Yoga is a syncretic Hatha yoga practice developed by Nevine Michaan over 40 years. She and her teachers incorporate classical Hatha yoga with Taoist theory, geometry, magic, mythology, metaphor, and imagination — in a practical framework designed to potentiate personal and communal well-being.

We firmly believe that the strongest attribute any yoga teacher possesses is themselves. Learning refined alignment + biomechanics is a given on our trainings, but we don’t stop there – be prepared to explore things like personal development, confidence, and speech. Our 300 hour programs are registered with The Yoga Alliance, but they’re so much more than that. In fact, our advanced trainings are some of the most comprehensive available today. Our graduates now teach at studios, retreats & trainings around the globe. The Sacred Fig Yoga Teacher Trainings produce confident, knowledgeable, articulate, and empowered yoga teachers. Period.

10 HOUR INTENSIVE TRAINING - BODY READING with Abbie Galvin

10 HOUR INTENSIVE TRAINING - BODY READING with Abbie Galvin

10 HOUR INTENSIVE TRAINING - BODY READING
with Abbie Galvin

Saturday & Sunday, December 1-2nd (2-7pm)
Price: $300 ($250 before November 26th)

Learning to read a body via asana work is one of the goals of teaching yoga. Poses are snap shots that show things in the moment. Does the pose fit itself? Does it have stability in the base, capacity in the torso, and a full view. Is it organized on a plumb line, does it have a center and a circumference? Does it conform to a grid. Reading a body, assessing a pose, interpreting where one is heading, is the art of seeing. Seeing patterns such as the repetition of arches in the body on every floor, or how a collar bone is turned will be reflected in the wrist. Poses show propensities of behavior and how personal habits are articulated in the practice.

When we are looking at a yoga pose, we reference the ideal form of it so that we have a template, a map, a criteria to look for; shoulders and hips that make four corners (a frame), legs that substantiate it, and a head with two eyes that see in every direction. Form that is not functional, that is dysfunctional, is not sustainable. Our work is to transform the personal to a formal form that functions formidably.

In this training we will explore:

How to read the body through the feet

How poses reveal information to us

How to read and adjust a pose to make it formal

How the personal reveals itself on every floor when you put someone on a grid

How to use your vision to become a good diagnostician

As a teacher, Dages prizes clarity, compassion and depth of practice.  She emphasizes open transmission of knowledge and draws from a wide and various background in yoga, dance, herbalism, language arts, kabbalah and academic theory.

Raised in Jackson Hole, WY, Dages attended Bard College, where she received a BA in Dance.  Undertaking formal yoga studies in 2002, she earned accreditations in both the Bihar and Kundalini lineages.  These models of interiority led her to a study of her own lineage of Judaism, and yielded time spent absorbed in Jewish study and extended stays in Jerusalem’s Ultra-Orthodox seminaries.

Dages enrolled in graduate school in 2010 to study feminist, queer, and psychoanalytic theories. She attained her M.A. in interdisciplinary gender and performance studies from NYU.

Her syncretic teaching style has been profoundly affected and enriched by immersion in studies with her mentor Nevine Michaan, founder of Katonah Yoga. Today, Dages is recognized as a senior teacher within the Katonah Community, distinguished for her insight, her ability to push through the boundaries created by patriarchal thinking, and her empowerment of students with precision, empathy and strength.   She is on the staff at both The Studio and SKY TING in Manhattan. Recent collaborations include a series of workshops with Elena Brower, and retreats and teacher trainings with Abbie Galvin, Sacred Fig founder Anton Brandt, and Sky Ting co-founder Chloe Kernaghan in Bali, Dominican Republic, Greece, Switzerland, and Morocco. 10 HOUR INTENSIVE TRAINING - HOME PRACTICE with Abbie Galvin

10 HOUR INTENSIVE TRAINING - HOME PRACTICE
with Abbie Galvin

Saturday & Sunday, November 10-11th (2-7pm)
Price: $300 ($250 before November 5th)

A home practice addresses the vision and virtue of personal health, wellbeing and long life. A home practice is a commitment to self-care, a ritualized modus operandi for one’s participation in a technical integration of mind, body and breath. Engaging in a home practice is a way of addressing the manner in which one personally organizes one’s self; developing a determined life, setting goals and following through.

By making the choice to turn inward for a determined amount of time, in a personal space, at a particular time of day, determined by a schedule, one’s personal practice is supported by one’s personal time management. In this most organized way, we find our freedom in this prescribed confinement. This interior shift of mind into the body’s intelligence, endows the organs and their attendant glands with more efficiency. And then by virtue of this gargantuan effort, one’s physiology impinges on one’s psychology.

During this training, we will explore how to develop, maintain and integrate a home practice. Our home practice manual will be included with registration.

BOOK EVENT–Radical Acts of Embodiment: Dages Juvelier Keates

Radical Acts of Embodiment is a manual and manifesto. As a primer for practitioners of yoga, it contains practical information on techniques of Katonah Yoga, a syncretic Hatha yoga practice developed by Nevine Michaan, incorporating Taoist theory, geometry, metaphor, and imagination. But this book is also an attempt to bridge a perceived gap between personal practices and political action. This book posits that the personal is political and the political is practical. Our bodies are not abstract, nor are they delusional. They are not broken down mechanisms to be fixed nor problems to be resolved. Our bodies are our material, and we are in a moment of an explosion of opportunity for intelligent yogic practices to proffer other guidance: to suture the wound, to bind the riven, to braid the binaries, to turn us towards deeply sensate, sensual, and sensible embodiment.

As a writer, mover, and teacher, Dages Juvelier Keates conducts queer feminist embodiment research. Deeply influenced by psychoanalytic theories, she explores bodies as accretions of unanswered questions, ephemeral archives of inter- and intra-personal memories, gestures, and other bio-imaginative acts. Her work seeks to decolonize “the body” as a site of productivity. Dages has a B.A from Bard College and MA from NYU. She has recently taught in numerous international yoga teacher trainings and participated in panels for Colgate University, New York University, Parsons/The New School, the Newington-Cropsey Foundation, and Temple University.

TUNING THE INSTRUMENT: Teaching the Therapeutic Private with Dages Keates–10 hour Intensive

Manual Included

You are a yoga teacher and practitioner.

You have someone who is interested in private yoga sessions with you. What do you do?

A private yoga session is different from a group practice. In a private, you tune your instrument, in a class, you play for the symphony! This workshop is focused on training teachers to work with privates. Learn Katonah techniques to precisely read and adjust your private students. We will cover a basic structure for sequencing and organizing a session to best serve the needs of different types of students. You will gain hands-on experience to gain confidence through applied knowledge.

We will cover:

  • Working with injuries, older students and those with limited mobility

  • Body readings/diagnostics

  • Breakdown of frequently used poses and techniques along with their adjustments/modifications

  • Language: how to articulate Katonah Yoga theory to students

This training will be small and personal, enabling each participant to get the information that will best support them in empowering others. Specific questions can be emailed to Dages in advance, or feel to bring in your real life examples for mentoring.

Prerequisite:

As this training will cover Katonah Yoga material, taking some Katonah Yoga classes is suggested.

About Dages:

Dages has been teaching privates for sixteen years and had time to try to help, make mistakes, learn skills, and refine her techniques.

Recent collaborations include a series of workshops with Elena Brower pairing pranayama and aromatherapy, and retreats and teacher trainings with veteran Katonah teacher Abbie Galvin, Sacred Fig founder Anton Brandt, and SKY TING co-founder Chloe Kernaghan in Bali, Dominican Republic, Greece, and Morocco.

Testimonials from Past Participants:

“Dages is a master of both Katonah material and teaching in general. I felt like I received 15 hours of personal therapeutic attention from both Dages and my fellow students - all so eager learn the material and practice on each other. What a truly magical and enlightening weekend. More, please!”

“Dages is the best!! This course really helped me gain the confidence I was looking for to read and adjust my students one in one.”

“Whether your goal is to improve the experience for your existing clients or take on your very first one, you will absolutely walk away from this program with tools and confidence to do so! Having the opportunity to tap into Dages' extensive experience and her passion for sharing all she knows is invaluable. The set-up of the program was both professional and extremely productive; from the high quality materials to the vast amount of hands on practice each student was able to experience.”

"This training exceeded my expectations on so many levels. The wealth of knowledge and passion that Dages has for this practice is undeniable. This training will expand not only your teaching, but the lens in which you see the World."

“I highly recommend this training module with Dages. I left feeling empowered and filled with practical knowledge on how to give a therapeutic private. I was thoroughly impressed with the structure of the weekend and well Dages time-managed each day. Dages expanded my imagination of what a "yoga practice" looks like and how every body and every mind can benefit from these therapeutic poses and breath work.”

“The Teaching the Therapeutic Private training with Dages was an incredible experience. We learned practical, applicable tools for working with students one-on-one, and were immersed into the magic of Katonah yoga theory. The work was profoundly deep and yet playful. Especially as a vinyasa teacher who primarily teaches group classes, I learned so much and feel so much better equipped to teach privates. I can't recommend this training enough.”

INTRO TO CALISTHENICS: Developing Strength and Control through Body-Weight Movements with Noah Julian

The essence of body-weight training and the ultimate way for anyone to build strength, flexibility and bodily awareness. This type of training has obvious transferable benefit and can be a perfect complement to any physical endeavour one may wish to pursue.

We will focus on pushing and pulling for the upper body while also addressing the many ways one can develop very strong legs by introducing squatting, sprinting and jumping. In the spirit of calisthenics we will use whatever tools are available to us in the environment (whether that be walls, bars, poles, gymnastics rings or bodies. Be prepared to interact with the environment around you and the other practitioners within it.

Noah Julian’s teaching has its roots in yoga but is not bound by tradition. Sometimes fluid, always informative. We will look at the geometric alignment of the body and the possibilities that arise in one’s movement by correcting body mechanics and introducing old and new movement patterns.

About Noah

Noah’s early life was informed by intense study of music and the pursuit of a career as a concert violinist. Following a diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis Noah turned his attention toward meditation, breath-work, diet, and numerous movement modalities (including: Yoga-Asana, Acrobatics, Gymnastics, martial arts, dance, and WeightLifting). Noah has worked closely with yoga teachers of various styles (Katonah, Prana Flow, Vinyasa, Iyengar, Anusara, Ashtanga, Acro-Yoga), spanning two decades.  Using his experience with music pedagogy and the trials of recovering from a debilitating disease he brings personal tools as well as collected knowledge of moving through physical and mental challenges.

Form, Flow & Function: Setting Up a Practice for Insight

Often what is familiar feels correct and we will repeat the same habits even when they serve us no longer. In this workshop we will look at the building blocks of asana from the lens of sacred geometry and origami, in order to take a step back from the personal and have real insights into what is working for us and what is not. Then we will apply what we learned in a vinyasa experience, exploring how form and flow work synergistically to give us a functional relationship with our bodies that will serve us long and serve us well.

2-5pm

Aligning Your Adjustments - Yoga Instructors Only

Gain clarity and confidence in your teaching with hands-on expert, Mary Dana Abbott. In this workshop we will explore the geometry and dimension of a variety of asanas to build a skill set that allows you to attune your adjustments to what exactly is needed by the student. Standing poses, twists and hip-openers will be the primary focus of this installment of the workshop.

Sunday, October 28

9am-12pm Introduction to the Theory and Practice of Katonah Yoga®

This workshop is perfect for practitioners of all levels and styles, teachers and students.

Katonah Yoga® is a syncretic Hatha yoga practice developed by Nevine Michaan over 40 years. Themes using asana as origami, manipulating form for function, and developing a sense of personal measure are incorporated in Katonah Yoga® practices.

Katonah Yoga® is organized around three principles of esoteric dialogue: all polarities are mediated by trinity; the universe has pattern, pattern belies intelligence; by virtue of repetition there is potential for insight.

Disciplined techniques are organized for revelation through revolutions.

75 hr KATONAH YOGA TEACHER TRAINING w. ANTON + DAGES - PANTERELLIA, ITALY

This 75 hour, 9 day module dives deep into The Katonah Method.  Katonah is a syncretic Hatha yoga practice developed by Nevine Michaan over 40 years.

Period.

At the core of the The Sacred Fig philosophy is connection + community.

Join Us.

*Space for this advanced training is limited to 15 students.

IGNITE + INSPIRE with KAT VILLAIN

IGNITE + INSPIRE with KAT VILLAIN

BYH is honored to host guest teacher Kat Vallain author of book, Yoga as Origami and exceptional yoga instructor from Canada. Kat gleans her teaching from Katonah Yoga in NY and will undoubtedly inspire, inform and introduce a new way of practicing yoga for longevity and joy. This workshop is open to all – beginners to seasoned practitioners.

#1 Introduction to Katonah Yoga

The body is the measuring stick of the cosmos and is designed in perfect proportion. To understand one’s body is to understand the vaster functioning of the universe. This personal pattern fits itself and then fits universe when well folded. Using the body as origami is a pragmatic and esoteric way in which to move efficiently throughout one’s physical structure. The precision of the folds in the practice irons out the wrinkles in the body, freeing out the habits in the mind. The body is the mind and wherever a density lies in the body is where the mind does not measure up. The better one can fold oneself, the more one can learn to work smart, using the geometry of the body, as oppose to working hard, which relies upon the muscles of the body. This practice is to find more ease in everyday life by virtue of finding it in the body. This workshop will focus on training the practitioner to use the intelligent fit and efficient design of the human body in order to move through life with more ease.

#2 A Seasonal Practice

This workshop will train the practitioner in engaging and participating in a seasonal dialogue using specific yoga poses as a means to achieve harmony with one’s external surroundings. The daoist maxim of “who are we to go against the 10,000 laws of nature” will be used as the framework to enable one to live a skillful life that is invariably in flux. Nature is cyclical and the more clearly one can open up one’s senses to perceive what is going on around oneself, the easier it becomes to move through life with utmost ease. As the seasons change, the yoga practice should mirror these changes, merging one to Nature’s timeless laws. In summer we go out, participating in community and when the flip of winter arrives we are prepared to go into our caves to develop insights. This workshop will move through each season giving the practitioner appropriate tools to align with their circumstances.

#3 Adjustment Workshop

The true magic of practicing in community is that it allows one to leverage one’s circumstances. To practice beside another person is to truly show yourself: your strengths and weaknesses, knowing that a supportive and nurturing environment is where a lot of growth can take place. It is very hard to see our blind spots, and that is why we have friends to tell us when our behaviour is not measuring up. In the practice, when the pose does not measure up, one is typically lacking technique, formula, and ingredients. It is only when shown the proper proportions that one can transcend their personal frame of reference. This workshop will be heavily focused on working as a community to break through the personal technique that is holding us back. Learning how to adjust each others postures will be the focus of this class. It is when a friend has our back that we feel truly supported.

#4 Unwind the Spine

This workshop focuses upon spinal fluidity. The spine is the centre of our health, the heart of our nervous system. Esoterically the spine is our celestial pillar, the gateway between the cosmos and the planet and the highway from the primitive to the conscious. As gravity pulls our spines down we need tools and techniques to manipulate gravity. This workshop is focused on unwinding the spine, unraveling and relinquishing deeply held patterns that lie within. To have a healthy and supple spine is the gateway into an elevated vision. Techniques will be utilized to inform the flow and fluidity of our spine, allowing us to emulate this fluidity in our everyday lives. Liberation within the confines of our body starts with our physical vessel and a liberated body is a liberated mind. Come prepared to unwind to upbeat music. The practice will be followed by a Yoga Nidra to reset the nervous system.

Saturday, July 14, 1:30-3:30 and 4:30-6:30pm

Sunday, July 15, 1:30-3:30 and 6:30-8:30pm

LIVING SUTRAS: TAKING YOGA WISDOM BEYOND THE MAT workshop, Practice + Book Signing with AMY PEARCE-HAYDEN

Join Author and seasoned yoga teacher, Amy Pearce-Hayden for a journey into the ancient theory of classical yoga as codified by Patanjali and his Yoga Sutras.  The workshop will begin with an introduction to the eight-limbed path, followed by an asana practice designed to cultivate a deeper connection to the innate wisdom each of us carry that will be put to paper after. Group journaling and discussion follow practice with the text and Amy as your guide.

In its highest form, yoga is a practice for your body and your mind.

Living the Sutras brings the wisdom of classical yoga philosophy into your life in an accessible and relevant way. The Yoga Sutras, a foundational text of yoga philosophy and practice, written by the guru Patanjali over two thousand years ago, are made up of 196 aphorisms that offer potent teachings on how to deal with loss and pain, and guidance on how to lead a healthy and fulfilling life. Kelly DiNardo and Amy Pearce-Hayden offer an enjoyable entrée to this yoga training for the mind and spirit by introducing a sutra or group of sutras on a related theme, providing a brief commentary, and then offering writing prompts to allow you to reflect on and apply the meaning of the sutras to your life. The book is at once an introduction to the classical philosophy, a quick guide for students and teachers, and an active self-study that helps you to engage with the wisdom in a deeply personal way.
