Foundations of Katonah Yoga: 10 hour with Christy Maskeroni

  • DALLAS, Alula Collective 4325 Elm Street, Suite 110 Dallas, TX 75226 (map)

This training offers an opportunity to dive a little deeper into Katonah Yoga® theory and practice, as it is the framework of many of the Alula Collective classes. We will explore the foundational theories of Katonah Yoga - from the magic square and metaphors to the measure - how the neurological mapping using the magic square with the measure of a pose can assist us in uncovering the unconscious patterns in the body. The ability to map and measure a pose consciously gives the body new information, setting up the conditions a greater state of energy flow and optimizing the functionality of our bodies and mind. All of this will be weaved into the exploration of the Taoist principles of polarity, pattern, and the repetition of that pattern over time.

Through dedication and repetition we will revolve and evolve, shaping our lives into something of a more connected, functional, and joyful state of being. This is perfect for anyone at any level - teacher or student - wanting to explore their own practice in a deeper, more conscious way.

Christy Maskeroni is a Certified Yoga + Katonah Yoga Teacher, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, and owner of Alula Collective in Dallas, TX. She has been working with various forms of movement and bodies for over 14 years. Christy relocated to Texas after over a decade in NYC where she began studying and practicing Katonah Yoga with Abbie Galvin and Nevine Michaan. She continues to explore this practice and feels incredibly lucky to have discovered this material and continue to explore and share what she has learned with others.
Katonah Yoga® is a syncretic Hatha yoga practice developed by Nevine Michaan over 40 years. She and her teachers incorporate classical Hatha yoga with Taoist theory, geometry, magic, mythology, metaphor, and imagination -- in a practical framework designed to potentiate personal and communal well-being. Framing the practice, maps of time and personal space are defined and refined. Themes using asana as origami, manipulating form for function, and developing a sense of personal measure are incorporated into Katonah Yoga practices.

Katonah yoga is organized around 3 principles of esoteric dialogue: all polarities are mediated by trinity; the universe has pattern, pattern belies intelligence; by virtue of repetition there is potential for insight. Disciplined techniques are organized by revelation through revolutions.
