Therapeutic Movement A Katonah Yoga® Program with Michelle Rubin

Therapeutic Movement

A Katonah Yoga®Program

with Michelle Rubin

This workshop is focused on helping teachers and aspiring teachers feel more

confident with the therapeutic use and subtle hands-on adjustments of Katonah

Yoga®

Every teacher should feel fully in their comfort zone when connecting physically

with others in a way that is receptive and directive. A skilful adjustment can truly

transform someone's perspective, changing the way they look at themselves and

reshaping the lens with which they see the world.

Michelle will include a brief overview of the use of yoga as therapeutics, while

spending the majority of the time focusing on hands-on, practical applications of

the theory.

Katonah and Therapeutics

Join Michelle Rubin for an insightful 30 hour intensive training at Lumines Yoga in

Kronberg

This practice-oriented training is a blend of Katonah and Therapeutic Yoga. We will

focus on stability, balance and mobility of the joints and pelvis, to reduce muscle

and nerve stress and strain.

Through repetition and practice, you will become comfortable at identifying

different structural patterns, which will help you to discern how to assist others in a

way that will offer profound and lasting changes. Everyone will come away with

hands-on experience, and gained confidence through applied knowledge.

We will cover:

* Working with injuries

* Body diagnostics

* Breakdown of frequently used poses and techniques along with their

adjustments/modifications

* Language: how to cue and articulate better with verbal adjustments

* Subtle Katonah Adjustments

Expect to explore the foundations of inversions and backbends using sacred

geometry; strengthen and stretch your hips; and take breathing to whole new

level.

This training counts toward Katonah Yoga® teacher certification and Yoga

Alliance Continued Education credits.

Home Practice: 10 Hour with Christy Maskeroni

Home Practice: 10 Hour

When we step onto our mat in class, we are guided into a practice that hopefully leaves us feeling more connected to our mind, body, and breath. Our group classes fulfill and encourage us in a multitude of ways — connection to a community, a practice, and movement of energy. Having a routine home practice is even more essential. It is the secret to the longevity of the body and the practice. It’s what allows us to gain a different perspective on our body’s — a deeper connection to self and a practice more attuned to our needs. Although a home practice can be harder to fit into our lives sometimes, it is an essential part. Christy will help you develop the tools and techniques to cultivate your own home practice so that you might find a greater sense of your own health and well-being.

Christy Maskeroni is a Certified Yoga + Katonah Yoga® Teacher, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, and owner of Alula Collective in Dallas, TX. She has been working with various forms of movement and bodies for over 14 years. Christy relocated to Texas after over a decade in NYC where she began studying and practicing Katonah Yoga with Abbie Galvin and Nevine Michaan. She continues to explore this practice and feels incredibly lucky to have discovered this material and continue to explore and share what she has learned with others.

Sat Date: 9/28/2019 - 9/29/2019 From: 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Katonah Yoga® is a syncretic Hatha yoga practice developed by Nevine Michaan over 40 years. She and her teachers incorporate classical Hatha yoga with Taoist theory, geometry, magic, mythology, metaphor, and imagination — in a practical framework designed to potentiate personal and communal well-being.

Alex Sharry is a founding teacher at The Studio and Sky Ting Yoga in New York City. She uses Katonah Yoga theory, literature, Chinese Medicine, and Taoist philosophy as rudders in her classes and believes these archetypes teach us to consciously move through ourselves, with ourselves, in order to know ourselves better. She believes so strongly in the potency of the Katonah Yoga theory and knows when integrated into one's practice and life, it helps better discern blind spots in the body which avows blindspots in one's world.

This practice offers techniques to help meet resistance - physiologically and psychologically - with curiosity, an appetite for exploration, but most importantly a map in the form of good techniques whose boon helps us traverse turbulence with skill, grace, and consciousness.

“Katonah Yoga is not a practice, you can’t just do Katonah Yoga, you use it as a method in Yoga. That's why when people come to me and say they want to teach Katonah Yoga, you have to have something else, they have to do Ashtanga, they have to do Iyengar, they have to do something else because you are only original when you know something else” ~ Nevine Michaan
.

As Always EVERYONE IS WELCOME !

Join us and experience Nevine's Magic through me, the ongoing wholistic assimilation/embodiment of her material over two decades, in myself and woven into the organic living web of my life.

You will be valued, respected and held high. My aim as I teach this material, is to encourage and empower all of you to remember who you are, to own where you are already an authority, to find your own voice, cadence and by your own design/in your own time, to consciously select elements to weave, teach, live through your daily lives, work and traditions, You can't teach nor live it all. Time is revelatory and it will ripen you and the work in and through you. I believe You deserve a life and teaching that are unified, that extend from You, as its center, sovereign of your domain, level/in alignment with your own natural response, not someone else's. From my experience, this produces great Joy, fulfillment and freedom and a sustainable environment that becomes the fertile ground from which your own continued emergence and wholistic development can grow and flourish.

When you attend a training, even a class, from a seasoned Katonah Yoga instructor, you receive a synthesis of their heritage, experience, culture, previous studies, tradition, achievements, their rhythm, use of language; their very nature, teaching through the blueprint of the Katonah Yoga Material. In essence, we are composing the experience while weaving in components of our choice. The freedom and creativity that Nevine has encouraged in this is quite profound and unique, if you use it. There is great purpose in this methodology. This is why she requests you experience us all. These women, myself included, are not interested in homogenizing themselves, they are invested in fully Being themselves while teaching this work. They are each an individual product of it. We do in fact all teach and use the material differently and we are distinct, primarily women, doing so, though many men are certainly coming on board now and this is a Welcome Shift. How and what we choose to teach is by our own design, all of this is what makes us Unique.  This is your opportunity in the participation of the system that Nevine has spent her life meticulously selecting and organizing. The sum total of all these parts is what makes her and the work she continues to evolve, an ever emergent Whole, utterly Original.

WHAT WE WILL COVER: Each day will open with a communal class, guided meditation and pranayama.

Below are some of the signature elements we will delve into pragmatically, technically and esoterically threaded with my own insight. Some of these are specific choices for Inlet, others are some of the aspects of the Katonah Yoga material that are an integral part of my life.

POLARITY MEDIATED BY TRINITY: This is Everything in Space and then in Time and a substantial teaching in the Katonah material, Including a simple potent revelatory method of using the Triad as a practice in your daily rounds.

READING THE BODY: The fine art of RePositioning. The pragmatic technicality, imaginative and graceful means of reading someone's body in the present and providing them with the tools to use what you've found in their practice and daily lives.

KATONAH INFORMED VINYASA On Weaving language throughout this tradition with creative potent pauses as brief educational opportunities. I began teaching Nevine’s work by leading Ashtanga slow motion, threaded with this material.

ADJUSTMENTS: A select number of consensual, discerning, conscious, creative adjustments with much collaboration and supportive dialog.

PRANAYAMA: Our Signature Pranayama, deconstructed and additionally taught at a learning cadence so you can own it.

THE MAGIC SQUARE: Cohesive elaboration and insights on the Magic Square, a new method I’ve discovered to embody it, which becomes a great tool for teaching it and some of what each position number, room contains, the grid and numbers are set, no ambiguity and its overall evolutionary current/content is living, organic and ever emergent.

WHOLISTIC PRIVATE INSTRUCTION: We Begin with you, into the Katonah Yoga Blueprint of Reading a Body, where it goes from here depends on who you are, who you are working with, your previous experience, current skill set and your imagination. I have been working primarily one on one with the Katonah Material for 21 years.

TEACHING WITHOUT PHYSICAL CONTACT: You may choose to be a teacher who doesn't have communal adjustments during your classes or vary it. It's up to you. Learning to use your voice and language to guide a room or individual thoroughly through a pose, with little or no physical contact is potent and provides a unique own age for your students.

PRACTICING IN SOLITUDE: This provides the fundamental playground for better knowing/becoming of ones self, more evenly developed freely functional. Its the door to self-intimacy, care, kindness, safety, love, perhaps tending with a lighter hand, a softer landing and is always the sacred space for the inevitable work when things fall apart. This is where you remember, reorder, reclaim, where you restore, replenish, refine. Its where the therapeutic work of restoration and longevity occur. It’s where you self manage/organize, where you find You at the center and grow/strengthen/ripen in the vortex of time. Additionally, a wealth of opportunity to simply figure things out, reevaluate, work on what you've lost, develop what you’ve never had. Your solo practice is yours and is developed by your design. It evolves as you, the seasons, your life and your needs change.

MEDITATION: I began sitting as a young child. Over the years, it became more formal moving through the lens of Zen, Tao, Chogyam Trungpa, Nature, Ken Wilber/Integral Theory, Alan Watts, Egyptian Mysticism, Hermetic Philosophy, Insight, Course in Miracles and on. Over the last 20, I have been weaving Nevine's material in, especially in most recent years with the advent of her maps and evolutions.  We will do a guided meditation daily.

NUMBER/GEOMETRY: The One The Many. The sequential structure of everything.

GREAT NATURE: The absolute display, the patterned blueprint for living in harmony/balance/overall well being with the Natural World therefore yourself. You are a micro of the macro. Opens the way for play of UNIVERSAL/PERSONAL

YOU NOW IN SPACE AND TIME: Reflections/Revelations Technicality on the Explicit/Implicit On the Line in the Round 1st 2nd 3rd, an eventual Braid of One Taste. 4th Nature YOU

THE GOLDEN THREAD: Embodying the Magic Square with your narrative thread, imagination and cosmic material; a Continuum of you YOUR NARRATIVE, in a life, a day, a moment, In reflection and Revealing and some of the other mapped meditations, evolutions.

ANATOMY OF A CLASS A Katonah communal experience and much of what's possible there. We will work with this, as we practice each day. It lies in your hands as to how to create, govern, direct and structure this.

TAO: The nature of things. Pragmatic, Graceful, Lucid Instruction on the Art Of Living

WHEN THINGS FALL APART in your life, in a classroom, in a private, In the moment.

ALL OF THIS will be woven with Hermetic Philosophy, Metaphor and Why, Ken Wilbur’s Integral Theory as in alignment with Katonah Yoga, Asana as Origami: Paper 2D The body 3D, Tensegrity (tension and integrity) Super Sensibility, WuWei and Music. “Without music, life would be a mistake” Friedrich Nietzsche

Each day there will be space and time for your questions !

For those traveling from the around the US or Abroad We have recommended accommodations for local hotels, Air B and B's, including group lodging. PLEASE NOTE: Manasquan is a shore town, Rates will greatly decrease after the summer season.

Yoga Games with Dages Juvelier Keates

Fredag

16:00 : Strength, Structure, Stability (Studio 5)

Asana is origami for bodies. The first part of this vigorous practice will break down the angles and measures of Katonah classics: dogs, hangs, squares, lunges, squats and pigeons. From there, we will dive into an ocean of fluency, knitting asana together with poetic sequencing. Afterwards, we will plumb the depths and whip up the heights with an ecstatic and pragmatic pranayama extravaganza!

Lördag

10:45 : Sacred Geometry set in practice (Studio 3)

Form and pattern in Yoga Asana

In this workshop, you will learn about the archetypes of numbers and focus on organizing your body according the laws of geometry. Recognize structural forms and patterns in your standing, seated, and inverted asana-- the personal reveals the universal! This workshop will stimulate your imagination and help evolve your physical practice through the mundane mysticism of mathematics. Yoga is pragmatic and it’s magic!

18:00 : Recipes for Joy (Studio 1)

A sixty minute pranayama practice is one of the signature aspects of a Katonah Yoga practice. Asana practice allows you to throw out garbage, pranayama practice allows you to become full of joy. You will learn to systematically travel through all of the “rooms” of your body in order to amplify your energy, flush your glands, and rewire your neurology. Learn ancient techniques uniquely syncretized to facilitate a deep sense of presence, attunement, and vibrancy. An experience not to be missed!

Söndag

A real game in yoga (and in life) is to learn how to make our effortless effort. The trick of this game is figuring just the right amount of effort to put into our work, because with too little or too much, we can experience burn-out or become too idle. When we use props in our yoga practice, we are supporting ourselves with scaffolding, allowing us to organize our house (the body) well. Do not mistake this as physically limiting or particularly restful. When you’re doing real restoration work, it’s transformative and you’ll need the right support and tools to shift your perspective and change you frame of reference.

There are few tools that are versatile and useful as a chair. It is an objective partner that can be utilized in many ways to lift and support, giving us different angles to play with and to receive and perceive information from. When we see things from different perspectives and angles, we might realize our ways habitually doing and thinking is one small piece of our bigger picture.

In this training we will look at the different ways we can use chairs: in a home and/or restorative practice sand group setting. We will explore its application in warrior poses, inversions, restoratives, pranayama and more. Come explore this magical tool of support, and learn new recipes to re-imagine and re-invigorate your practice.

Katonah Yoga® 10 hr Training with Ari Halbert with Ari Halbert

Sat Date: 11/2/2019 - 11/3/2019 From: 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Katonah Yoga® is a syncretic Hatha yoga practice developed by Nevine Michaan over 40 years. She and her teachers incorporate classical Hatha yoga with Taoist theory, geometry, magic, mythology, metaphor, and imagination — in a practical framework designed to potentiate personal and communal well-being.

A licensed acupuncturist, holistic nutrition coach, Qi Gong instructor, and registered yoga teacher with over a decade of experience, Ari brings a diverse, multi-disciplinary approach to his work.

His background in engineering, in-depth studies of biomechanics, and hands-on training in human anatomy enable him to help clients recover quickly from injury and achieve greater overall stability and quality of movement. Ari is an expert at helping people understand complex movement principles an apply them within their own practices.

With a keen eye for detail, Ari’s teaching style is succinct, highly personalized, and imbues a deep care for integrity of movement.

November 7th-10th

With DAGES JUVELIER KEATES

Senior Katonah Teacher

A 30 Hour Teacher Training Intensive

KATONAH YOGA® accredited education

Props act as scaffolding for deep renovations to the magical abode of your body. Yoga chairs can help to stabilize asana work by providing measure and contact to leverage. Standing, seated, and reclining work can be greatly enhanced and bouyed by skillful use of the backless yoga chair. In this training, we will explore Katonah Yoga’s central metaphors of fits, folds, asana as origami and magic in measure. We will practice diligently in the mornings and dive into applied theory in the afternoons.

Yoga can be radical and revelatory. Saturate yourself in the development of a versatile practice that can be translated and augmented through whatever yoga you already know. Learn how to use props, straps, and adjustments to evolve your practice and teaching. Confidence is based on competency, which is rooted in experience and repetition. Gain confidence, refine your practice, amplify your techniques.

**This training will be small and personal, enabling each participant to get the information that will best support them in empowering others. Specific questions can be emailed to Dages in advance, or feel to bring in your real life examples for mentoring.**

30 HOUR KATONAH YOGA INTENSIVE TRAINING with Abbie Galvin

  • BOSTON, Boston Yoga Union (map)

Substantiate yourself, develop competency, and free up your imagination.

From the esoteric ideas of Taosim to the very pragmatic way to hold a right angle, we will move through techniques that articulate the Katonah Yoga theory that you may have heard but have not yet made use of in your teaching or embodied in your practice. Whether you are a teacher seeking theory in order to better mentor your students, a student searching to deepen your practice, a practitioner dealing with an injury, or a new practitioner seeking a way to integrate yoga into your life; our intensive will inform, inspire, and usher you on your path towards becoming a sphere of influence in and out of the yoga room.

In this training we will cover in depth all aspects of the Katonah Yoga method including hands on adjustments, restorative, prop work, teaching privates, home practice, body reading, magic square and pranayama.

KATONAH YOGA ® is a syncretic Hatha yoga practice developed by Nevine Michaan of Katonah Yoga Center over 40 years. She and her teachers incorporate classical Hatha yoga with Taoist theory, geometry, magic, mythology, metaphor, and imagination — in a practical framework designed to potentiate personal and communal well-being. Framing the practice, maps of time and personal space are defined and refined. Themes using asana as origami, manipulating form for function, and developing a sense of personal measure are incorporated in Katonah Yoga practices. Katonah Yoga is organized around three principles of esoteric dialogue: all polarities are mediated by trinity; the universe has pattern, pattern belies intelligence; by virtue of repetition there is potential for insight. Disciplined techniques are organized for revelation through revolutions.

About Abbie Galvin
Abbie Galvin is the owner of The Studio, a NYC based yoga studio, teaching Katonah Yoga. She has been honing this practice for the past 25 years and has a strong student-base from all around the world. Abbie's instruction is informed by her own creative process as a filmmaker and from her exploration of the therapeutic process as a psychoanalyst. She has learned over and over that truly participating in any formal process of self-exploration leads to transformation whether it be physical, psychological or intellectual. Her goal is to engage students of yoga in the dialogue between their conscious and their unconscious selves because it is through that effort that we potentiate ourselves. It is her intention as a teacher to cajole each student in that most rigorous effort to be grounded, to grow upwards, and to participate in the creation of their best self.

The Sacred Fig 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training

The Sacred Fig 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training

The Sacred Fig 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training is a highly-intensive program designed to educate & inspire the next generation of world-class yoga leaders.  We firmly believe that the strongest attribute any yoga teacher possesses is themselves.  And so we emphasize things like personal development, confidence, and speech (and we’ll bust some myths about alignment, too).  Our rigorous program is approved by the Yoga Alliance, but it’s so much more than that.  In fact, it’s one of the most comprehensive available today.  Our teacher trainings attract students of all levels, from literally all around the globe. The Sacred Fig Yoga Teacher Trainings produce confident, knowledgeable, articulate, and empowered yoga teachers.  Period.

At the core of the The Sacred Fig philosophy is a profound sense of connection.  Not only do our thoughts affect us in tangible ways, but we also have the extraordinary capacity to affect those around us, and the environment we live in.  And so as yoga practitioners and teachers, we strive for the extraordinary, so that we may serve as a beacon of possibility for those around us.  We see the divine in everything around us, but we also know that it lies within us.  So before trying to shape & control everything outside of us, we first look deep within, and do the work ourselves.

We don’t provide answers (and we’re wary of any teacher or school who claims that they do).  Instead, we welcome & provide different viewpoints, we stir lively discourse.  We set the circumstances to challenge notions about what yoga is, what it might feel like or look like, and why we practice.  We create an accelerated learning environment, where trainees gain the confidence to discover their own “truths” about yoga, about their bodies and their practice.  There’s no memorization, no mimicry, and no script.  From this place, trainees find their authentic voice… sharing their knowledge & their practice naturally. Join us.

Each 75 hour module has a unique focus, led by experts in their respective fields.

This 75 hour, 7 day module dives deep into The Katonah Method.  Katonah is a syncretic Hatha yoga practice developed by Nevine Michaan over 40 years. Katonah Yoga: Map, Metaphor, and the Metaphysical

Join Johnathan Raiss in the practice of Katonah Yoga, or the practice of mapping one’s body to determine weaknesses, strengths, and new perspectives to revolutionize your practice. Your body is said to show your psychological state and memories, while also expressing a deep history of what’s happened to you, where you’ve been, and how you’ve been influenced by your surroundings. Join Johnanthan to delve into the art of mapping out the body through the application of sacred geometry onto our physical form to see one’s physical expression as a metaphor for your existential experience.By learning how to carefully view posture, we can begin to see how we choose to be and are unconsciously influenced. In this workshop, students will learn to form a skillful personal practice to develop and sustain longevity, insight, strength, flexibility, and mobility. Students will leave with an understanding of the principles of Katonah Yoga - as they relate to form, functionality, and developing optimal movement and ease in postures.

VINYASA X KATONAH YOGA RETREAT with Brian Nygard & Benjamin Sears

  • SOUTH OF FRANCE, Lux Yoga (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

LUXYOGA is all about integration; bringing people and practices together for an experience of great pieces that combine to exceed the sum of their parts – and your expectations.

Our September 3-9 retreat will be a long-awaited collaboration between Benjamin Sears, LUXYOGA founder (“one of 15 teachers to study with now” – Yoga Journal 2017) and Brian Nygard, one of a few teachers selected to facilitate Katonah Yoga trainings, and a respected mentor in the New York Yoga community with a diverse resume that spans Vipassana meditation, Hot and Vinyasa Yoga, Wim Hoff Breath-work, and a career as a professional musician.

These two teachers and friends share a belief in a fine balance between consistency and variation in practice. Teaching what works from different disciplines in a cohesive and connected way empowers students to think for themselves and best express their individual potential. On this retreat, you will improve your practice and awareness by repeating concepts in different applications. By exploring a curated set of movement and stillness variations while centered on fundamentals, you become radiant; up for any challenge, happy in your body, and self-reliant!

This retreat is open to all levels and ages and counts as 20 Hours of Continuing Education Credit for Yoga Teachers. We have hosted guests from age 15 to 81. All are welcome here.

THE BULLET POINTS
The practical magic of Katonah Yoga • Sacred Geometry Vinyasa Practice Meditation Functional Mobility inspired by Functional Range Conditioning for optimal joint function and fitness Modifications for all levels Strength development for all levels • Legendary LUXYOGA cuisine, villa & service • Biodynamic Wine Tasting • Insider’s South of France Excursions

A DAY IN THE LUX
Good Morning!
Each day will begin with variations on Katonah Yoga Practice, Benjamin’s signature Sacred Geometry Yoga Practice, breathwork and meditation.

Bon Appetit
The legendary LUX Provençal lunch buffet and a little downtime, unparalleled views, pool time.

Afternoon
Two afternoons will feature excursions that balance the cultural and cosmopolitan side of the South of France with the stunning nature of the hills of Provençe.

The remaining 4 afternoons will feature a second practice that pulls from your teachers’ unique and broad knowledge of body and mind. Some practices will present material from a more common Yoga approach, others will integrate practically scientific mobility, strength, and coordination techniques tailored to ensure that you leave the retreat not only having made significant strides, but also with the tools to continue to work towards optimal health and performance. In a world of fad workouts, depth of focus on the component parts of your body combines with your own best effort for the results you want. Self-knowledge is power and at any level, you can train like the world’s best and/or find a path forward from an injury you might be dealing with.

Gatsby Vibes
In the evening, guests will gather for aperitifs while the sun sets over the Mediterranean and then savor legendary LUX cuisine and local biodynamic wines. Two optional excursions, time in nature, airport transfers, and the cozy luxury treatment that we’ve refined since 20007 are of course all included.

We believe that a vacation can change your life, that empowered living is about evolving mind-body practices over fitness fads, that people deserve to eat memorable cuisine that comes from local sources, and that luxury is about giving people the space to connect, make memories, and get clear on what you want out of life when you head back home.

LUXYOGA TESTIMONIALS

“I have taken yoga retreats all over the world and I must say that LUXYOGA is my absolute favorite retreat to date. Not only are Ben and Craig extraordinarily gifted instructors but they are also kind and funny. Every session offered an opportunity to deepen my practice both physically and spiritually. The beauty of the Villa will leave you speechless with its panoramic view and open air dining room.  The food alone is worth coming to Lux. and I must say that I am grateful for all the calorie burning yoga offered during our stay because it allowed me to enjoy each sumptuous meal with delight and gusto! The Villa has a very special guardian (Concierge) named Dan who will ensure that every moment of your stay is both comfortable and luxurious. The entire team at Lux will make you feel at home and like family. I look forward to many more retreats at Lux!”

Alejandra Arguindegui

“As a committed hot yoga practitioner, I found the combination of classes very useful for my hot yoga practice.  Not only did the Sacred Geometry help me realize what areas of my body I am targeting in each posture and gave me some tools to achieve better alignment, it helped me think of the postures and entire practice in a more enlightened way.  My yoga practice has improved dramatically as a result. In fact in my third class back I did full standing head to knee on both sides, something I had never done before (even though I am attempting to become less outcome focused). So in taking on board what I learnt from Sacred Geometry and not trying so hard I have managed to see and feel improvement in all aspects of my yoga practice. Thanks Ben and Tatiana for the knowledge you shared and the care and commitment to teaching you showed us.”

Sharon Levine

Have loved visiting LUXYOGA for many years.  Have been mostly for Bikram weeks but also two vinyasa yoga weeks.  Have also spent both the Christmas and New Year's week at the villa.  Always look forward to meeting the other guests, enjoying delicious food, and the company of Ben & staff.  Its a great week of reflection, real work on my yoga and myself, and I gratefully unplug from my crazy life to recharge and refocus on what is important.  Its unquestionably one of the best things I do for myself and I highly recommend the LUXYOGA experience regardless of your level of yoga fitness.

Dages Juvelier Keates:

https://www.dagesjuvelierkeates.com/about/

As a teacher, Dages prizes clarity, compassion and depth of practice. She emphasizes open

transmission of knowledge and draws from a wide and various background in yoga, dance,

herbalism, language arts, and academic theory.

Raised in Jackson Hole, WY, Dages attended Bard College, where she received a BA in Dance.

Undertaking formal yoga studies in 2002, she earned accreditations in both the Bihar and

Kundalini lineages. These models of interiority led her to a study of her own lineage of Judaism,

and yielded time spent absorbed in Jewish study and extended stays in Jerusalem’s Ultra-

Orthodox seminaries. Dages enrolled in graduate school in 2010 to study feminist, queer, and

psychoanalytic theories. She attained her M.A. in interdisciplinary gender and performance

studies from NYU.

Her syncratic teaching style has been profoundly impacted by immersion in studies with her

mentor Nevine Michaan, founder of Katonah Yoga. Recent collaborations include a series of

workshops with Elena Brower pairing pranayama and aromatherapy, and retreats and trainings

in Bali, Canada, Dominican Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Panama, Morocco, Spain

and Switzerland. Dages regularly contributes to teacher teacher trainings with The Sacred Fig,

SKY TING, The Studio, and Katonah Yoga Center. She has just released her first book in

collaborating with SKY TING, “Radical Acts of Embodiment: Teaching and Practices of Katonah

Yoga.” Dages resides and writes in Paris and teaches internationally.

Testimonials:

“Dages is a master of both Katonah material and teaching in general. I felt like I received 15

hours of personal therapeutic attention from both Dages and my fellow students - all so eager

learn the material and practice on each other. What a truly magical and enlightening weekend.

More, please!”

“Whether your goal is to improve the experience for your existing clients or take on your very

first one, you will absolutely walk away from this program with tools and confidence to do so!

Having the opportunity to tap into Dages' extensive experience and her passion for sharing all

she knows is invaluable. The set-up of the program was both professional and extremely

productive; from the high quality materials to the vast amount of hands on practice each student

was able to experience.”

"This training exceeded my expectations on so many levels. The wealth of knowledge and

passion that Dages has for this practice is undeniable. This training will expand not only your

teaching, but the lens in which you see the World."

imagination of what a "yoga practice" looks like and how everybody and every mind can benefit

from these therapeutic poses and breath work.”

“The Teaching the Therapeutic Private training with Dages was an incredible experience. We

learned practical, applicable tools for working with students one-on-one, and were immersed

into the magic of Katonah yoga theory. The work was profoundly deep and yet playful.

Especially as a vinyasa teacher who primarily teaches group classes, I learned so much and

feel so much better equipped to teach privates. I can't recommend this training enough.”

2017 ⓒ Katonah Yoga Center, Inc., www.katonahyoga.com, Illustrator Susan Fierro.

Students will leave this training full of new information, both embodied and theoretical, for

amplifying their practice and teaching others. Katonah Yoga concepts easily translate and

augment other styles of yoga practice. We hope that participants will be inspired to overlay our

syncretic material with the lineage they already have mastered. This training is intended to

invigorate and stimulate one's teacherly creativity, as well as give people an experience of a

bold, dynamic body of theory.

10 HOUR INTENSIVE TRAINING - BODY READING with Abbie Galvin

10 HOUR INTENSIVE TRAINING - BODY READING with Abbie Galvin

10 HOUR INTENSIVE TRAINING - BODY READING
with Abbie Galvin

Saturday & Sunday, August 17-18th (2-7pm)
Price: $300 ($250 before August 12th)

Learning to read a body via asana work is one of the goals of teaching yoga. Poses are snap shots that show things in the moment. Does the pose fit itself? Does it have stability in the base, capacity in the torso, and a full view. Is it organized on a plumb line, does it have a center and a circumference? Does it conform to a grid. Reading a body, assessing a pose, interpreting where one is heading, is the art of seeing. Seeing patterns such as the repetition of arches in the body on every floor, or how a collar bone is turned will be reflected in the wrist. Poses show propensities of behavior and how personal habits are articulated in the practice.

When we are looking at a yoga pose, we reference the ideal form of it so that we have a template, a map, a criteria to look for; shoulders and hips that make four corners (a frame), legs that substantiate it, and a head with two eyes that see in every direction. Form that is not functional, that is dysfunctional, is not sustainable. Our work is to transform the personal to a formal form that functions formidably.

In this training we will explore:

  • How to read the body through the feet

  • How poses reveal information to us

  • How to read and adjust a pose to make it formal

  • How the personal reveals itself on every floor when you put someone on a grid

  • How to use your vision to become a good diagnostician

Shoulder Joint Health: Enhancing Strength, Mobility, and Range of Motion Description with Ari Halbert

Shoulder Joint Health: Enhancing Strength, Mobility, and Range of Motion Description with Ari Halbert

Shoulder Joint Health: Enhancing Strength, Mobility, and Range of Motion Description

What:  Movement

When:  Friday, 2-3:30 PM

Where:  TBA

As the joint capable of the largest range of motion within the human body, the shoulder’s unique design offers incredible structural freedom, which proves to be both a boon and a burden. Unlike the other six load-bearing joints of our anatomy, which offer strong structural stability through the way the bones eloquently join and meet one another, the shoulders rely almost entirely on the surrounding connective tissue to keep them together. It is, at least in large part, because of this that shoulder pain is so ubiquitous. The health of the shoulder joint is easily disrupted through poor posture and many of the head-forward activities we constantly engage in. It is for this reason that special attention needs to be paid to proper shoulder function.

With this in mind, this class will review what’s happening “underneath the hood,” so to speak, and apply various exercises to counteract many of the most common dysfunctional movement patterns that almost everyone will develop over time. The exercises will include, but are not at all limited, to traditional yoga asana. Many more are borrowed from gymnastics, calisthenics and corrective exercises used by physical therapists. So be prepared to move in new ways and experience freedom from shoulder tightness, soreness, and restriction.

ADJUSTMENTS: 10 Hour Training with Christy Maskeroni

  • DALLAS, ALULA COLLECTIVE (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

The right adjustment can give the student an opportunity to see, feel, and understand their own potential in a pose. It allows us to let go of unconscious, habitual patterns and explore a new frame of reference to support ourselves. It gives the brain and body the ability to consciously retrain patterns giving us greater freedom and function.

Being able to provide the proper adjustment in a pose can be transformational for the student. In this training, you will strengthen your ability to approach an adjustment using both the measure of the pose, your voice, your contact, and your own vision so that you might augment the student’s ability to reach their greater potential.

Foundations of Katonah Yoga: 10 hour with Christy Maskeroni

  • DALLAS, Alula Collective (map)

This training offers an opportunity to dive a little deeper into Katonah Yoga® theory and practice, as it is the framework of many of the Alula Collective classes. We will explore the foundational theories of Katonah Yoga - from the magic square and metaphors to the measure - how the neurological mapping using the magic square with the measure of a pose can assist us in uncovering the unconscious patterns in the body. The ability to map and measure a pose consciously gives the body new information, setting up the conditions a greater state of energy flow and optimizing the functionality of our bodies and mind. All of this will be weaved into the exploration of the Taoist principles of polarity, pattern, and the repetition of that pattern over time.

Through dedication and repetition we will revolve and evolve, shaping our lives into something of a more connected, functional, and joyful state of being. This is perfect for anyone at any level - teacher or student - wanting to explore their own practice in a deeper, more conscious way.

Christy Maskeroni is a Certified Yoga + Katonah Yoga Teacher, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, and owner of Alula Collective in Dallas, TX.
Katonah Yoga® is a syncretic Hatha yoga practice developed by Nevine Michaan over 40 years. She and her teachers incorporate classical Hatha yoga with Taoist theory, geometry, magic, mythology, metaphor, and imagination -- in a practical framework designed to potentiate personal and communal well-being. Framing the practice, maps of time and personal space are defined and refined. Themes using asana as origami, manipulating form for function, and developing a sense of personal measure are incorporated into Katonah Yoga practices.

Katonah yoga is organized around 3 principles of esoteric dialogue: all polarities are mediated by trinity; the universe has pattern, pattern belies intelligence; by virtue of repetition there is potential for insight. Disciplined techniques are organized by revelation through revolutions. www.katonahyoga.com

It is her intention as a teacher to cajole each student in that most rigorous effort to be grounded, grow upwards, and to br grounded, grow upwards, and to participate in the creation of their best self.

10 HOUR INTENSIVE TRAINING - CHAIRS
with Mary Dana Abbott & Linsey Boisvert

Saturday & Sunday, July 20-21st (2-7pm)
Price: $300 ($250 before July 15th)

A real game in yoga (and in life) is to learn how to make effortless efforts. The trick of this game is figuring out just the right amount of effort to put into our work, because with too little we become idle and with too much, we can experience burn-out. When we use props in our yoga practice, we are supported by scaffolding, allowing our efforts to be attuned towards the real interior work: organizing the space of the body well, so that time is on our side and we get to our destination without breaking down. Do not mistake this as physically limiting or particularly restful. When you’re doing real restoration work, it’s transformative, you’ll need support and tools to shift your perspective and change your frame of reference.

There are few tools that are as versatile and useful as a chair. It as an objective partner than can be utilized in many ways to lift and support us, while giving us different angles to play with, receive and perceive information from.  When we see things from different perspectives and angles, we begin to realize that our ways of habitually doing and thinking are one small piece of our bigger picture.

In this training we will look at the different ways we can use chairs: in a home and/or restorative practice, as well as in a group setting. We will explore its application in warrior poses, inversions, restorative, pranayama and more. Come explore this magical tool of perspective and support and learn new recipes to re-imagine and re-invigorate your practice.

The Magic of Yoga and Sacred Geometry with Lisa Dunn

The Magic of Yoga and Sacred Geometry ‘Yoga is a process of replacing old patterns, with new and more appropriate patterns’ Sri T Krishnamacharya

In this Katonah Yoga inspired workshop you will explore using techniques of geometric measure to infuse your practice with dimension, energy, and refinement. These techniques offer us a map with which to navigate a practice rather than overly relying on feelings or sensations. If a pose is measured well, if the geometry is correct, the body is supported by its own structure rather than relying on muscle. By reforming our body’s unconscious habits and introducing more informed and efficient patterns, yoga becomes origami for the body. In this way this practice sets up conditions for greater self-knowledge and a more expansive vision, which leads to personal change. Most of us want change when we start a yoga practice. For some it’s solely about physics and learning techniques to get a better understanding of the forms. For others it’s the eye opening, bringing together of body, mind and spirit to realise the potency of yoga.

You will learn techniques to mediate the moment, understand how to organise and orient yourself in time and space, discover how nature reveals its intelligence through pattern and how our bodies are no different. And that we practice yoga for information that is both new and that will take us somewhere - knowing the destination is always joy.

10 HOUR INTENSIVE TRAINING - ADJUSTMENTS
with Danielle Rosati

Saturday & Sunday, June 22-23rd (2-7pm)
Price: $300 ($250 before June 17th)

There are certain criteria that all good adjustments share. Beyond a demonstration of good mechanics, this intensive will serve as an experience of how to use information magically; touching someone in a real way, moving someone so they can get out of their own way, affecting someone so they have an insight.

Developing your own vision is the key to learning how to adjust well. The goal of an adjustment is to change someone’s frame of reference. For the most part, since personal style summons one’s unconscious habits, adjusting another practitioner's pose offers a different angle, a new direction, or a re-orientation in order to open a portal of experience impossible on one's own.

We will work pragmatically as well as theoretically, moving through asanas in order to discover how best to approach an adjustment, move a body, affect someone's practice and change a mind. Come fine tune your capacity as an adjuster, develop your relationship to touch and enhance your ability to see more dimensionally in order to enrich another person's vision.

“Katonah Yoga is not a practice, you can’t just do Katonah Yoga, you use it as a method in Yoga. That's why when people come to me and say they want to teach Katonah Yoga, you have to have something else, they have to do Ashtanga, they have to do Iyengar, they have to do something else, because you are only original when you know something else”.

~ Nevine Michaan

Dear new and In the making Katonah Yoga teachers, all students and my peers

Join us and experience Nevine's Magic the through me, the literal embodiment of her vast material over two decades, in myself and at one with a living system in my life and where I've chosen to land in my contribution to the developing landscape of Katonah Yoga and its future; it's up and coming teachers. This training will be indicative of this choice and the Public Reveal of My Katonah Yoga Advanced Mentorship Program.

You will be valued, respected and held high. I have been quietly mentoring teachers that are either in the process of their Katonah Certifications or complete and in some cases, their communities for quite some time now.  Encouraging and empowering them to remember who they are, to own where they are already an authority, to find their own voice, cadence and by their own design, to consciously select elements to weave and teach through their ongoing lives and traditions, you can't teach it all. Time is revelatory and it will ripen you and the work in and through you. From where I stand, You deserve a life and teaching that are unified, that extend from You, as its center, sovereign of your domain, level/in alignment with your own natural response, not someone else's. From my experience, this produces great Joy, fulfillment and freedom and a sustainable environment that becomes the fertile ground from which your own continued emergence and wholistic development can grow and flourish.

When you attend a training, even a class, from a seasoned Katonah Yoga instructor you receive a synthesis of their heritage, experience, culture, previous studies, tradition, achievements, their rhythm, use of language; their very nature, teaching through the blueprint of the Katonah Yoga Material. In essence, we are composing the experience while weaving in components of our choice. This is personal and not, though, You are there and conducting, your presence speaks volumes. The freedom and creativity that Nevine has afforded in this is quite profound and unique. This is why she requests you experience us all. These women, myself included, are not interested in homogenizing themselves, they are invested in fully Being themselves while teaching this work. They are each an individual product of it. We do in fact all teach and use the material differently and we are distinct, primarily women, doing so, though many men are certainly coming on board now. How and what we choose to teach is by our own design, all of this is what makes us Unique.  This is your extraordinary opportunity in the privileged participation of the system that Nevine has spent her life meticulously selecting and organizing. The sum total of all these parts is what makes her and the work she continues to evolve, an ever emergent Whole, utterly Original.

Bless You with the Light of a Thousand Suns Nevine Michaan.

Love,

Ivy Ray

WHAT WE WILL COVER: Below are some of the signature elements we will delve into pragmatically, technically and esoterically threaded with my own insight. Many of these are by request from the two potent teachers, Michelle and Jen, who are sponsoring and participating in this training. The others are some of the aspects of the Katonah Yoga material that are an Integral part of my living web.

ADJUSTMENTS: A select number of consensual, discerning, conscious adjustments and much supportive dialog

PRANAYAMA: Our Signature Pranayama, deconstructed and additionally taught at a learning cadence so you can own it.

NUMBER/GEOMETRY: The One The Many. The sequential structure of everything, the ladder that leads to higher intelligence

MEDITATION: I began sitting as a young child. Over the years, it became more formal moving through the lens of Zen, Tao, Chogyam Trumpa, Nature, Integral Theory, Alan Watts, Vipassana, Egyptian Mysticism, Hermetic Philosophy, Insight, Course in Miracles and on. Over the last 20, I have been weaving Nevines material in, especially in most recent years with our maps and evolutions.  We will do a guided meditation daily.

KATONAH INFORMED VINYASA On Weaving language throughout this tradition, potent pauses and sneaky tricks. I began teaching w Nevine in my beginnings, by leading Ashtanga slow motion, threaded with this material.

PRACTICING IN SOLITUDE: The power and vast potential of practicing on your own, a primary component of Katonah Yoga: Restorative and Longevity work and whatever else you need to work on, additionally it is an essential opportunity for self-tending, feeding, caring, intimacy. You cannot give what you do not own for yourself. Including the structuring of this work for your students.

GREAT NATURE: The absolute display, a patterned blueprint for living in harmony/overall well being and the key to understanding the whole. You are a micro of the macro

YOU NOW IN SPACE AND TIME: Reflections/Revelations Technicality on the Explicit/Implicit On the Line in the Round 1st 2nd 3rd Nature into an eventual Braid of One Taste and Nevines brilliance on Time.

READING THE BODY: The fine art of RePositioning, the pragmatic technicality, imaginative and graceful means of reading someone's body

THE MAGIC SQUARE: Cohesive elaboration and insights on the Magic Square, a new method to practice with it, which becomes a great tool for teaching and some of what each position contains, the grid and numbers are set and its overall evolutionary current/content is living and ever emergent.

THE GOLDEN THREAD: Embodying the Magic Square with your narrative thread, imagination and cosmic material and perhaps some of the other mapped meditations, evolutions.

ANATOMY OF A CLASS A Katonah communal experience and much of what's possible there. We will work with this, as we practice. It lies in your hands as to how to govern, direct and structure this.

WHOLISTIC PRIVATE INSTRUCTION: We Begin with you, into our classic Blueprint, where it goes from there depends on who you are working with, your previous and current skillset and your imagination.

Katonah Yoga Workshop Series: With Eva Giorgi- Part 2, Traveling Territory

Traveling Territory

Each class-time experience will weave Katonah Yoga’s synthesis of myth, math, metaphor and Chinese Medicine through the pragmatic, palpable fits of the body in Asana to the subtle arts of holding space, articulating and adjusting while conducting a communal class.

Our bodies are mountains and lakes, plains, peaks, shoreline and sea. All the while, mossy microbes multiply in our ancestral rivers bridged by ever-evolving biomes. Our weather is breath, cellular resonances, alchemical reaction. Our senses cross-pollinated with imagination is the instinctual animal of us intersecting with our individuating human will; An internal crossroads, where it all happens. It is all you!

Whether you want to find your way out or discover a way in, looking at a map is a pretty good place to start.

The Magic Square, a central framework to Katonah Yoga theory and Practice, is our map!

In this workshop we will lay out The Magic Square like a road atlas before a big trip.

To cover the basic lay of the land, we'll identify each number as if it is a region with its own character and quality. Inservice of our own corporeal, emotional and spiritual landscapes our dialogue will extend to: organic anatomy of Chinese medicine, holistic principles, Taoist ideas , & The Archetype of Numbers

Then, we will use a series of physical techniques to travel the territory!

We’ll kick, stroke, breathe, pedal, pump, coast, dance, and make righteous turns through our neurological highways, foot trails, sidewalks, climbs, dips and swims.

Expect a full pranayama practice, Explorative restorative set-ups, Traveling through postures & Aromatherapy

Also sign up for Part 1 of the series- Saturday 6/8: 2-5pm: Practice, practice, practice! Play!

$70/ day or $120 for both

75 HOUR YOGA TEACHER TRAINING IN PANTELLERIA with Anton & Dages

The Sacred Fig Advanced Yoga Teacher Trainings are intensive, modular program designed to elevate + inform the next generation of leaders in the yoga community. Our advanced 300 hour programming is divided into 75 hour modules. Piece together any four modules, on your schedule, anywhere around the world, for the full 300 hour program. Each 75 hour module has a unique focus, led by experts in their respective fields.

This 75 hour, 8 day module dives deep into Katonah Yoga techniques. Katonah Yoga is a syncretic Hatha yoga practice developed by Nevine Michaan over 40 years. She and her teachers incorporate classical Hatha yoga with Taoist theory, geometry, magic, mythology, metaphor, and imagination — in a practical framework designed to potentiate personal and communal well-being.

We firmly believe that the strongest attribute any yoga teacher possesses is themselves. Learning refined alignment + biomechanics is a given on our trainings, but we don’t stop there – be prepared to explore things like personal development, confidence, and speech. Our 300 hour programs are registered with The Yoga Alliance, but they’re so much more than that. In fact, our advanced trainings are some of the most comprehensive available today. Our graduates now teach at studios, retreats & trainings around the globe. The Sacred Fig Yoga Teacher Trainings produce confident, knowledgeable, articulate, and empowered yoga teachers. Period.

At the core of the The Sacred Fig philosophy is connection + community.

We don’t provide answers. (and we’re wary of any teacher or school who claims that they do) Instead, we welcome & provide different viewpoints, we stir lively discourse. We set the circumstances to challenge notions about what yoga is, what it might feel like or look like, and why we practice. We create an accelerated learning environment, where trainees gain the confidence to discover their own ‘truths’ about yoga, about their bodies and their practice. There’s no memorization, no mimicry, and no script. From this place, trainees find their authentic voice… sharing their knowledge & their practice naturally. Join Us.
