Mentee Testimonials

  • Daniel Gottlieb, Summer 2020

“My mentorship was during quarantine 2020. I believed it kept my spirits high during such incertain times. I remember Nevine saying ‘after the plague a renaissance emerged.’ I loved her insight and have allowed that to fuel my practice as a Katonah Yoga teacher. I would recommend the mentorship program to anyone looking to view yoga from a different lense than the typical western fast-pace yoga style. Katonah is uniquely one of a kind and it’s an honor to be a part of the katonah yoga community.”

  • Terri Haray, Summer 2020

“I began my yoga teaching journey with Katonah Yoga, and after just 30 hours, I was hooked! I couldn't wait to learn more, so I pursued my 200-hour training and eagerly returned to the Katonah practice. While I still have much to learn, I am deeply passionate about this approach and am eager to share it with others. The Katonah teachers are incredibly creative and supportive, making the practice feel both challenging and nurturing. I am grateful to be a part of this community and look forward to continuing my journey with Katonah Yoga.”

  • Hannah Spongberg, Winter 2021

“I participated in Katonah Yoga’s mentorship Program in 2021. Studying with Josie, David, Dages, Kyle, and Nevine was a truly inspiring experience. I didn’t want it to end! Their enthusiasm for the material is tangible, and their independent interpretations are rich with knowledge, specific yet universal, and provided a solid foundation for my own exploration of the practice, my teaching path, and how my teaching can be supported by Katonah Yoga. Sharing this learning experience with the other mentees was extremely rewarding, and getting to know other skilled practitioners around the world is invaluable.”

  • Kat Yates, Spring 2022

“The Katonah Yoga Mentorship is an immersive and captivating learning environment that propelled me into the seat of the teacher and equipped me with all the techniques, skills, and knowledge to help me feel confident as a Katonah Yoga teacher. The variety of teachers and the diverse range of tools + specialties they offer create a substantial (and enthralling) experience that left me feeling inspired and ready to share this material. To this day, I still reference my notes on adjustments, cueing, theory, sequencing, shapes and so much more. The program far exceeded my expectations. Whether you are looking to get your certification, or wanting to dive deeper into the Katonah material and how it can inform your practice and your life, you won't be disappointed.”

  • Kendra Doersam, Spring 2022

“Joining the mentorship program was the catalyst for putting all the pieces together for me. Sessions are well planned out, organized and full of information and practice. All of the mentors were wonderful and practicing with Nevine was beyond valuable! It’s 100% worth the time and investment!”

  • Isabelle Stüssi, Fall 2023

“The Katonah Yoga mentorship was closing a cycle of years of study of the Katonah Yoga material. I especially appreciated to get to practice with many different teachers each teaching their own expression of Katonah Yoga. This helped me to refine and confidently express my own interpretation of sharing this practices with my students.”

  • John Dodig, Winter 2024

“Scheduled in a smart way (two weeks on each of Traditional Chinese Medicine’s five seasons), accompanied by really helpful materials, and led by experienced and intelligent mentors that gave practical advice on everything from technique to sequencing to the theoretical ideas underpinning the practice. Nevine's workshops were also, of course, standouts. Learning alongside the rest of my cohort was a real joy, and it’s been an additional, unfolding joy to meet some of my mentorship-mates in classes and workshops in real life, too.”

  • Allie Jaffe, Winter 2024

“Honestly I continue to be so impressed with organization of the entire Katonah training group. The mentors have been incredible and the admin side is always so reliable and you all just completely meet and exceed all the expectations. I can’t thank you all enough for really keeping your promises, providing such an exceptional experience and just being you. Huge shoutout to Lisa for being so on top of absolutely everything!!!”

  • Francesca Valarezo, Winter 2024

“This program has completely changed my teaching and my practice in so many ways. It has been a truly inspiring 10 weeks of not just learning but diving deep into myself. I highly recommend it to new and experienced teachers. The Katonah material is ageless and timeless, an infinite source of wisdom and alchemy for everyone who chooses to study it. I am so grateful towards Nevine and all my wonderful teachers! Would definitely do it again, you are guaranteed to learn something new each time.”

  • Brenda Vongova, Fall 2023

“Katonah Yoga and its extraordinary founder, Nevine Michaan, have been more than just a practice to me. Nevine is a dear friend and a guiding light, a mentor whose wisdom has profoundly touched my life.  From the moment I encountered Katonah Yoga, something resonated deeply within me. I was immediately drawn to the way it beautifully wove the principles of Chinese Taoism – it felt like coming home to a deeper understanding of my Chinese roots from my mother’s family.

Through Katonah Yoga, I feel more whole, balanced, resilient, and vibrant. It has helped to give me even more clarity and focus. This is not a path toward conventional perfection, but rather an unfolding into the most authentic and expansive version of oneself.”
